Hi. Had my first lesson and I'm hooked. I feel I went well without falling over. Feeling very competent about progressing

I'm 73kg.

Been offered a 2011 new Naish Kailuh (daggerboard) 160lt 267x79cm and 5.2m sail + all accessories

Its asking new $2500 the lot (2nd hand sail)

Good to go?

Absolutely perfect.
But you could do it for half that....... and you will change to a smaller board after 6-12mths perhaps.......... do depends if you're rich or not

Yes. Good size for your first season, but as stated, you will want to go smaller after you gain a bit of experience. You should be able to sell the 160 litre board to the next beginner. Better still, talk one of your mates into joining you and sell him the board when you are ready to down size.

The "get a smaller board with 6 months" depends entirely on your "time on water"... yes it is possible to go from solo to hero in that period, but that requires massive daily intake of vitamin B12 **.

Also, find some local sailors to give you some tips - it will dramatically increase your uptake of skills.

** actual consumption of B12 entirely dependent on which movies you watched as kid.

I am about 76kg and started out with 146L and 5.7 m of sail. At some point you will grow out of the bigger board and add more sails to your collection. How much time you spend on the water and the amount of cash in your wallet will probably determine how fast this all happens.

for a 2011 board and rig it is way overpriced. You could get a 160 l board and rig new for that price.

The JP on gumtree looks the goods, The sail is an older model but still modern enough and looks in good shape. The funsters a good learners board but will still plain up nicely. The X3 NP boom is a good aluminum boom and it looks like there's a harness and lines included as well. Everything you need to get you out on the water.
