Will a 2016 NORTH Platinum 460 SDM mast work with a 2015 MAUI SAILS TRX 1 8.4 sail? Supposed to use a M.S. Race 100 K 460 SDM.
Mauisails went from a stiff top to a constant curve mast recently, would contact them. Also find out what the bend curve is on the North mast, and the carbon content, want at least 75% for a race sail, I think.
Isn't maui now gone?
The mast charts from back then show it as a 'barely works' match so it might be OK but it certainly not a straight swap with no noticeable difference.
Even if curve is right, dia can be off - so I say for anything with cams don't even bother unless you have access to different cams and/or want to try changing batten lengths if its necessary to get good rotation. ie: for a person who loves tinkering to try, not for a beginner to try.
Thanks Sandman and Mark. That was my take away also - The curve and diameter both might be issues.
I recently picked up a beautiful 2016 NORTH Warp / Fanatic Falcon 138 TE quiver . The sails were 6.3, 7.0 and 7.7 . I have been looking for a 8.4 WARP without success. There is an immaculate Maui Sails TRX1 available but the seller does not have the M.S. mast .
Separate Question : Will the WARP 6.3 be at all useful with the FALCON 138 ? I am around 90 kg and sail a windy / gusty inland lake that rarely builds up chop larger than 1/2 meter.
"Will the WARP 6.3 be at all useful with the FALCON 138?" Eh... yes! and lots of fun!
The 138 is still blisteringly quick when fully lit with a (relatively) smaller sail. Its a big bit of kit but no slouch. Biggest issue is wind walking (but good technique will fix that. Nicko Prine has some good videos on "flying" a big slalom board).
It is also an option to use a smaller lighter rig in more marginal conditions or those days where the wind is due, but slow to build and to get out there with out a massive rig, keep the weight down and coax the board to go-just not as exhilarating.
Thanks Peter. I have seen a few of Nico's clips. He needs a pilots license !
On the mast question, I was able to contact Phil McGain :

Would a 2016 NORTH SAILS Platinum SDM 460 mast work OK with a 2015 TRX1, 8.4 ? Thanks,Robert

Yes, they are a good mast. Best Regards, Phil McGainSynergy Sports Inc.
Since the TRX 1 is in such pristine condition, and nicely priced, I am tempted to give it a try.

The fellow I got the board from said it had 2 speeds :
VERY FAST and SCARY FAST.

I'd think that 6.3 would be a bit small for that board size. At 90 kg and 6.3 conditions a smaller board will be the go.
no idea about compatibility, soz.

Maui Sails moved to constant curve at the year of 2015 so this probably makes even more sense. Please test and report your findings.

A 6.3 on a Falcon 138 wont work. The 136 or 140 work great with a 8.4 and 7.7 but thats as small as you would want to go. The boards are awesome but at 85 wide a rig that small just doesnt work.
I sail a lot, only this year, more than 20 times, starboard isonic 127L 85wide and 6.3m sail with 44 fin.
Also 9.4m sail and 127L and 44 fin works great!! Never had spinouts even when i'm overpowered.
if the wind pick up and have enough water level, i change to starboard 161 formula with 73 fin ;)
but believe with this 127L board and 44 fin i can sail from 5.7 sail to 9.4. Call me crazy but not liar
