Hey,
Am heading off on a winter windsurfing road trip this weekend from Melbourne to Northern NSW. Am taking my beloved van loaded with four boards 155 ltr GO, iSonic 111, Syncro 92 and Evo 74 so I will be kitted out for all conditions. Forcast looks like SW winds at Merimbula on Sunday, is this sailable? If so where?
Anyone have any other recommended sailing spots in NSW. Am definately gonig to South West Rocks as this is where I learned to sail as a kid.
Thanks

hey, merimbula can work in a south westerly, but can be a bit sketchy if there is too much west in it. best place to sail is main beach/fishpen. these areas are on the southern side of long point, and you can launch from either side of the entrance to the lake but in a SW launching from a spot called ford oval will be your best bet. driving into merimbula from eden/pambula turn right before the bridge and follow the road to the beach.
as for further up the coast, j bay has a few spots, then gerroa, but it works better in a NE, in fact i have no idea if its even sailable in anything but ne.
then there is botany bay in sydney itself which is a bit of bump and jump fun in a southerly.
personally i havent sailed any further north than long reef in syd, so am pretty useless from here on, but hope this helped.

Gerroa is sailable in a westerly (Cross-off), and SW (cross shore), and can be quite good. But people generally don't bother as it's known for it's NE's and nothing else, which unfortunately don't usually happen in Winter.
If you go further north through Wollongong, there's plenty to choose from for the winds we're getting at the moment.
Haven't read that guide in the post above but here's one that has most of the Gong spots in it.

Starting to get a lot more strong westerlies at the moment, but its hard to say what will happen. You should get something though.
