Thinking of spending a week in Qld - end of this month early May. Anybody got tips on any of the Whitsundays that have safe sailing for an improving intermediate (just). Looking for a good hotel etc. Failing that, somewhere that's still gonna be warm. Are stingers etc a prob at this time of year? Whilst not in Qld, is Coffs Harbour any good?
Cheers
Coffs is terrible for wind this time of year. May get lucky with a southerly, failing that- go surfing.
Croweman - I spent most of my early teens to mid 20's in Coffs. Coffs can still get a little cold that time of year but it's a nice place to visit. Pretty laid back and easy going. Nice beaches, etc. I should add, I don't recall ever seeing any windsurf shops so I'm not sure how sucessfull you'd be finding gear to rent.
Hamilton Island has beginner type gear you can use for free if you're staying on the island but you can't go out if it's over 15 knots, which is prety much every day this time of year.
Thanks for the tips all. Always a long shot given the time of year and available time to travel. I'll have to make do with a book and a beer...
Daydream Is had some decent gear a few years ago, if taking gear is an option then whitehaven / hill inlet is nice but is a day trip on one of the boats.
No bad jellyfish that time of year.
Coloundra,
Great little holiday spot, very popular with the wind and kite people. Kayaks boats bike tracks and two very good windsurf and kite shops to look at porn at.
