After a skin cancer talk at work, I thought I'd try and do the right thing. Put some sunscreen on the top of my feet. BAD IDEA!!! Every time I went for a gybe, my rear foot kept slipping on the deck. Nearly did a hamstring and calf muscle.
Put your sunscreen on when you leave home or first get to the beach, it's supposed to be on for 1/2hr before you hit the water anyway. It should have soaked in by then.
that's the answer (use 4hrs waterproof and put it on half hour before)or buy the sports gel which isn't greasy (much better). In fact it's a little sticky which'll help you keep your feet in the straps whilst doing flat water loops!
I use skin colored zinc cream on face and arms and a bit on the top of my feet I don't get any problems with grip but it is a b***h to was of the wetsuit if u get some on it lol
No need to bother with skin toned sunscreens, either. A little 30+ goes a long way. All you need is a few drops rubbed on to your skin leaving a transparent film, but it has to be a metal oxide containing brand. Using zinc cream as war paint is pointless.
And you can trust me on this. I'm one of those freckly redheads who burns at any time of the year in Sydney. When I was a teenager my nose, arms and back spent 4 months of the year peeling. And, dig this, I found out on the day of my younger sister's wedding that the reason she shuns me is the case of blisters that she got from a 3 hour visit to Avalon on my birthday in 1972.
