I'm lucky enough to be squeezing in 4 to 5 days in Maui early June. Understand need for a car & the equipment rental set up but keen for any advice on where to stay. I'll be traveling on my own.

Have been to Maui a fair while ago a couple of times........stayed at Banana Bungalow and The North Shore Inn.....up in Wailuku if i remember.....shared rooms with bunks although Banana Bungalow did have single rooms and a big mango tree outside in the court yard.....mangos dropping on the ground regularly......i had a great time.....

I've had good luck using www.vrbo.com for accommodation (lots to choose from in Kihei, even though a drive to Kanaha or Hookipa) and www.pritchardwindsurfing.com for gear.

Matt Pritchard can also arrange accommodation.

I stayed in Wailuku when I was backpacking... it's cheap, but the area was a bit rough (this was 2000)

I ran that place for almost a year back in 2000-2001. Great memories. Anyone know what it is like there these days ?

Hey NR,
I went past there a few times last May and from the outside it looked the same as it was back then. Can't say who owns it these days but Paia is a very different place now. ...... not a crack head in sight.
