Hi everybody! I came over from Europe for a 5 months stay in Warrnambool. So far (3 windy weeks), I've seen one(!) windsurfer and that was 100 km away in Portland (which might be pretty close for you guys?). Need urgently help, where to get equipment (hire), where to go, where to get after water-work drink etc. thanks!

There is not much gear "for hire" in Melbourne and surrounding districts, as the community simply isn't that big - as you found out.

And Warrnambool is quite a distance away from Melbourne which in general makes it a no-go destination for windsurfing (ie: there a better places elsewhere...).

Sorry to dissapoint.

Bernd,
Sorry mate, not much in the way of "hire gear" in this area (Western Vic.) Gestalt's idea of a "windsurfing library" (posted 15/10)would be handy if windsurfing was as popular here as it is in NSW, QLD & WA.

I know a few local guys who might be able to get a rig together for you, there's a lot of gear being wasted in ceiling spaces and sheds in this area....I'll ask if you like.

I'd lend you my gear, but I've just started and I'm geared for light-moderate wind freeride.

I do have a couple of plastic Bomboras and old sails here in Portland(I mean over 25y/o) that you can have, provided you don't return them when you're done.

You could try the guys at 'SHQ Boardsports' or 'RPS the Boardstore' in Melb. they might work out a long-distance rental deal, or at least maybe help out with a couple of contacts in W'bool. Send message if you're heading this way again soon.

As for watering-holes, I've always got a few spare 'Cooper's Pale's' in the bar fridge....

your closest shop is Stonker in Torquay - 52616077 - not exactly close by but as close as you can get

the guys there are in the process of stocking the shop with lots of windsurfing kit - not sure about hiring but worth asking - do you have wheels???

Sailhack,

thanks for help.
A 330 plastic rocket sounds chalenging, however, a 90 l wave board seems more appropriate for local conditions.
Probably I saw you the weekend before the last one; close to the harbour?
Cheers
