I'm looking at getting a week in on the front or back of a work trip. Either 2nd week of September or 2nd week of October. Where would give me the best chance of getting a sail in? Need a hire centre and prefer flat water or not sensible waves. Easy transport and proximity to major city would be a bonus.

Thanks in advance.

Gnaraloo.

Nearest hire centre is 1200km away but still the best spot to go by far.

Mark , you can't send him to Gnarloo ya donut!

Max, the sea breeze does not kick in 'till November (I think) so you are stuck with the winter fronts that time of year which are not very predictable i'm afraid.
For flat water sailing you may aswell stay around Perth. It might be wise to try the river.

further north you go the earlier the season starts, Exmouth could be OK as early as mid September, Geraldton by mid October, at least Geraldton has hire stuff, not quite a major city, but it's a reasonable size country town for W.A

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Dude, I'd love to go to Gnaraloo, however my swimming and naiscent wavesailing skills wouldn't be enough to buy me the bragging rights once I got there.

I see there's some sweet 2 night deals from perth to exmouth but google doesn't show up any hire outfits - any suggestions?

Unless things have changed dramatically in the last 3 years, there's no hope of hiring anything north of Geraldton. You'd need a vehicle at Exmouth, anyway, Sandy Bay/Point (been so much talk about Sandy Point Victoria lately, I'm confused on this!), one of the best flatwater spots up there is a fair way from anything. you could hire car and gear in Gero and drive, but it's a long boring trip. Think you'd be better off gambling on Gero mid October.
We normally go up in the last week of October, normally we'd expect a few days over 20kn and 3 or 4 over 15kn, in that week. But the last couple of years have been disappointing at that time. No idea what will happen this year.

Superb info guys. Think I will kick back around Perth for a couple of days and if I get lucky and it blows, will get a sail in. Otherwise I'm bound to find some other stuff to do!
