I own an old longboard wayler breeze, Ed Angulo design made of polyethelyne, with daggerboard. from the 80s i Believe.
That board is awsome for broad range of wind. It made me turn from beginner to intermediate. I still have things to learn that could be done with this board, but the railing system and its unique foot mast are giving up.
I am about to have the board worked on by a Professional to remove the railing system and also the fin system and have them replaced with new that will fit US and Euro foot mast and fins. (500$)
Would you think that I should not do that work on the board, will it work? (No I don't want to buy a new one)
Go a power box for the fin. More fin choices.
$500 buys a pretty good modern board but you would need a more modern rig too if you are still using the original 80s triangle sail.
I have 2 old Mistrals that are great OD & EQ2 and certainly wont be parting with the EQ2.

Has said professional actually looked at the board?
It shouldn't take them much time to determine if it'll work out or not. If its a plastic fantastic board, then i can imagine there'll be issues with bonding in the new parts.
I'd be more inclined to use it till it dies completely and use the additional money you'll save in the meantime to buy a modern board.
Would you put a turbo on a model T Ford???
It's done it's job, got you going, nearly 40 years of evolution has improved things.... just a little:)
Unless bonding to polyethylene has improved out of sight, modifications as described tend to fail as it is difficult to bond effectively to a polyethylene hull. 500 dollars is much better set aside for a new ( or at least newer) board.
If you cant find the bits you need to fix it on Ebay for very little $'s, the advice to 'use it till it drops' and put the money into a more modern version is the best advice.
Got it modified, I am enjoying it 5kts to 25+knots. A narrow, with underneath V-Shape, funboard is required for a 225pds guy on a river with dangerous rapid nearby and wind that at least 50% of the time on the water shift between 8knots to 14 knts. But in stronger wind I would say that it goes faster than most guy on the water with newer boards! Ok maybe because of my overpowered sails due to my size and strenght I get that advantage :)
My profile picture is actually the day after I got it modified!
Meanwhile I am using very more often my F2 Xantos 295 127L (goes very fast) for 18+knots and above. I am not quite yet comfortable going out with my mistral screamer 107L, and certainly not yet my mistral electron CGI 88L. (maybe this coming summer I will give it a shot when 35+knots). Currently I am using F2 127L which is too big and too fast for ''storm gear'' on the water/waves during 30+knots, with my smaller sail a NP 4.9m2.
Wayler Breez P test Freesail March April 1985. Storm 8 Test included..Brad Hiles pictured doing a duck gybe. Brad Hiles could have been a gold medal chance at the 1988 Olympics if he had gone according to some commentators, particularly as his heavy weather prowess on the Lechner and Div 2 was unmatched by others. Maybe someone who knows him shout out to Brad and ask if he wishes to do the Australian Master Games this year in Perth.
A couple week later, using the F2 Xantos 127L in strong wind. This board makes me step from intermediate to advanced!
Great thread bro.
I am amazed they were able to modify that board if it is Polyethylene. Good for you
