Gday everyone,
Thanks to our sponsors The Windsurfing Shed, Wicked Promotional Products and Boab Boat Hire, we are pleased to let everyone know that the 2016-2017 NSW Slalom Championships are on again at beautiful Sanctuary Point, from Friday 9th to Sunday 11th December.
This weekend will also include several 30 minute freerace sessions to count towards Heat 3 of the 2016-2017 NSW GPS series.
Last year we had an incredible day of flat out slalom racing on the Sunday afternoon in a perfect 20-25 knot seabreeze, that most people will remember for a long time. Fingers crossed for those conditions again in 2016.
For those who haven't been there, Sanctuary Point is on the NSW South Coast, about 2.5 hrs south of Sydney. The town is located on a lake called St Georges Basin, just inland from Jervis Bay. This means it picks up the strong wind from the Bay, while delivering perfect flat water blasting conditions. There is some weed for the first 100m from shore, but we'll be running the racing out where the lake deepens, allowing racers to use upright pointer fins if they prefer.
The area has lots of accommodation options ranging from houses (via Stayz or AirBNB) to cabins (Huskisson has great options) or camping. If you haven't already made arrangements, we recommend you start looking as its a popular place over summer.
We will post more details closer to the time. Look forward to seeing you in a few weeks!
Cheers
James, Murray and Byron
Here are some pictures from last years event, to whet your appetite! Most pictures taken by Nick Nelson.
I am so looking forward to this weekend of fun sailing and time with the family.
Please come along and enjoy the great sailing conditions and the opportunity to race slalom. It doesn't matter your ability it's about fun .
There is a huge amount of work and money that goes into organising and running an event like this so come along we need people to support this so we can build and continue to have a state title.
Down wind slalom there is no substitute for adrenaline pack fun racing.
Hi surfitz we'll set up an online registration and post the link this week. Can also register on the day. Will be good to see you there.
The shopping centre at Vincentia opened earlier this year so if anyone is travelling down, there's an Aldi and (big) Woolies there for all your supplies.
The weed near the boat ramp has really closed in this year, leaving us not a great deal of room for the flat water blast. In the deeper waters there's no change however inside of the lateral marker, it can get pretty thick and unless you're planing, a fin of approx 30cm will start dragging.
We've also had some nice easterlies recently which would arguably suggest Jervis Bay would work slightly better (launching from Plantation Point in Vincentia) if we get one over the weekend.
Praying for wind. Might have to sacrifice something in order to please the wind gods...
Looking forward to everyone heading down.
Tony.
Don't worry as soon as I rig a big sail the wind kicks in... proven in multiple locations...
Will be great to come down , see you all soon !
Really looking forward to it!
Thanks for running this amazing event again!
(Gee that AUS 003 guy is really skinny!)

I don't want much so dont rig too big!
It's early, but at this stage looks like we'll get light to moderate winds. The big north easter looks to be Thursday afternoon and evening.
Still, I've seen big north easters pop up out of a light to moderate easterly forecast many times!

I'm heading down for Thursday.. hopefully if I get a sail there will be others around.
If it's windy on the Thursday Sue, there will be others sailing... It will be my last day in my current job so who could ask for a better way to finish?

See you there!
James
Sweet! Thanks James.
BTW, a nice NE cycle for the whole three days is setting up on the long range forecast.....fingers crossed!
I have found the NSW slalom champion perpetual trophy which dates back to 1988.
It has so many legends on it just increadable.
It has been a gap of 5 years until we ran it last year and started the NSW slalom titles again .
So with Remi now engraved on it who will it be this year.
I personally think it's an honour to be on it .
It doesn't mater who you are or your ability it's about fun times racing together so come along you will have fun.

So will that give you more or less time to sail?

The fabled gw60 watch has not turned up as promised in time
I use a ripcurl search watch for gps and its pretty good
But will that cut the mustard for the gps comp? Hope so
G'day everyone.
Is there anyone coming down for the weekend who could pick up 1 inflatable buoy and a couple of flags from Brookvale?
Cheers
James
Great photos, James. Unfortunately I can't make it down this weekend, but hope you all get some good wind and have a great time.

pickup of the mark all sorted thanks to AUS4.
Nearly time kids!
I can say with a fair amount of certainty that we will have as good if not better conditions than last year.
The first two days should be moderate to fresh NE and Monday fresh to strong NE hopefully. Monday is still a little too far off to be sure!
As for tomorrow, if anyone is around it's looking quite windy - up to 30-35 knots NE late in the afternoon! I should be there around 2pm!

what forecast are you looking at? Anything I am looking at says Southerly or South East for Friday and Saturday. Sunday is NE. And as for Monday, I think you'll be racing on your lonesome cause the event will be over by then.
Oh yeah silly me! There I was thinking it was Sat-Mon.
I'm looking at Predict Wind with subscription and you are dead right about forecast.
I will be staying for Monday. It could be a good sail in the Bay.
I've also bunged the Mistral Speed 41 in the car so could try a few runs at Sanctuary.
Hi everyone, looking forward to kicking off the event tomorrow morning.
It looks like we'll have a southerly early, so we're going to stick to the rego, briefing and start times posted earlier in the week.
Friday 9th December:
9:30am Registration (for those who haven't already registered online)
10am Briefing
11am First possible start - GPS or Slalom
Saturday and Sunday - earliest possible start 10am (wind dependent).
Please save us some time and paperwork by registering online before tomorrow morning - it will take you 2 mins but helps us a lot:
