Hello to all,
I'm trying to find some reviews about Hot Sails Maui sails.
Actually i haven't seen any recent feedback about these sails on web and i would appreciate if anyone can share with me.
Are considered as good value sails? Their performance is quite good? What about durability?
I am thinking to switch from Neilpryde sails => From Neilpryde Combat to Hot Sails Maui Qu4d - 4 Batten.
What do you think?
Thanks a lot,

Thanks a lot,
I have not sailed the Newer NP Combat so I can only speak to the performance & durability of the Hotsails. In my opinion the Hotsails are extremely well built & yet very lightweight. They are not cheap though. As for performance I am on the KS3 & I won't ever sail anything else. They have so much power & range it is shocking. You should try to get a ride on one...
yes agree the KS3 is a star...3 batten and really good for me with 96kg 187cm...cant believe but top
new windsurf sails in general are NOT cheap ...
i have a prototype HSM SpeedFreak 8.5 which is made with the newer dacron
this makes it very light and durable in terms of sunlight
if punctured, it does not run and can be repaired with special tape
i have a few 8.x sails, but this one is the most used ...
in this range
and i sail a lot in light winds - weekend warrior
however, cannot compare your NP with the Qu4d sail
i do however use NP mast in my HSM SPF
same masts ...
HSM, all products are good, well made, the thought on rigging is done by a windsurfer,m its apparent , so easy, straight forward , no uncessary bits of Velcro . Since you mention the QU4D , I had 2 of original years, 5.2 n 5.6m both were easy to sail, did well overpowered, which 4 battens aren't known for, they are light, as in amoung the lightest. From a durability standpoint they are good. I have a 5.0 QU4D , 2017, its even better. I also have they KSSpider 4.3, it feels similar. I have not tried the KS3. Both KS3 and KSSpiders are very light, near the tops.
All the QU4Ds I had felt like quoted sizes. The 5.2 in particular saw a lot of use. Wonderful sail.
Compared to NP, these are long life. The masts you use on NP will be near perfect for HSM sails .
Of all the sails from them Ive had the QU4D is a favorite. Very well made, range is great.
I have had the Combat and. Atlas to compare of recent .
Happy to see this thread. I haven?t had hotsails before but just ordered, 4.5 and 5.0 qu4d and a 4.0 superfreak + a 370 mast which works for all of them. I will post here when i have tried them a bit. Looking forward to it

I now just have the 4.5 and 5 quad + 370 mast. Simple, strong and IMO feel is as good as any wave sail.
Through in a smaller sail if it's looking super strong.
Good choise
yeah, all of the sails are 2019. I will get them by the end of the month :)
thanks ! good choice...
Sails are here! Looking forward to some wind!
Can you please rig them?
To see how they're looking?
i don't see any sails
Use your iminagation , they come in bags, once removed then its rig time
The cold messed up my phone and the pics are bad..
But to me it seems like it needs about 2 cm more on my extension compared to what is written in the specs. According to Jeff the vertical bulges are supposed to be there and fill with wind, not sure what is happening around the clew, some bulges/wrinkles there which i?m not sure if is my bad rigging or what.
Finally got my first session in today! I have been struggling to squeeze in sessions with limited daylight up here. 50 knots yesterday but today was dropping fast.
I stayed away from the monster swell on the Reykjanes peninsula and had a mellow side on shoulder high wave session on a a sheltered spot. I sailed the 5.0 quad today. First impressions are great, very very light feel, powers up nicely and the power delivery is somehow kind of neutral, not that back handed or forward pulling, lots of power but still stable although conditions today were not really overpowered.
Last few years i have been sailing simmer black tips, simmer icons, north hero and for a short time sailed old hotsails bolt. Out of my old sails i preferred the simmer but the Hotsails quad seems to be even better. -and usually i?m not a guy who falls in love with sails very fast since i usually need some time to adjust my sailing to them.
So my first session was totally fantastic. Lets see how long the love affair lasts :)

I am not sure about the range of use of the Quad. I had a 2018 Quad 5.0 and the sail was good in light to moderate air but very unstable when overpowered. I am not sure if this is due to the S-shape, or the extra cloth present in the front, or the recommended 370 mast, or a combination of the above but when overpowered the sail simply got back winded when going in a straight line. It was a bit scary and disconcerting, I can't remember the last sail that had this problem ... probably need to go back to the 90s. The sail was fairly useless to me for bump and jump applications and I got rid of it. Back to firelight with my eye on Loft sails.
I used a lot of HSM in the last 20 years and durability has been a bit up and down. The GPS were built like rocks (and sailed like it). I would not really recommend Freaks but I found the Super Freak UL very fragile, Super Freak un-destructable, and not so sure about long term durability of the SpeedFreak that was however too under performing as a slalom sail. Fire/Speedeamons were very sturdy. My first generation FIrelight self-distructed quite fast with instances of mast going happily through the mast sleeve and batten pockets splitting open. Current generation Firelight is clearly stronger (but no longer light).

Duzzi will need some rigging lessons to get proper performance from his sails.
Have 4.2 and 4.5 Superfreaks...
Best in size out of 7 different 4.2-4.5. Neither handles gusts of 37 mph for me nor plane in 22 mph, so range is normal.
Weight on the heavy side, feel is very light, and non critical of tuning. Super durable.

How funny! hilarious really. Straight out of a high school bully repertoire. Bravo! Keep the forum going with such smart commentary!

Forgot some comment about the Superfreak family. Superfreak UL (I had 4.7 and 4.2) were way too soft. Great when steadily powered up but under performing the second you hit a lull. A gust comes in ... and nothing happens. Regular Superfreak (I had 3.7 and 5.3) were indeed heavy but more responsive, although still much less so than Fire or Firelights. SpeedFreak 6.5 was soft and easy but under performing at the top, loosing 3-4 knots GPS 10" speed in respect to HSM GPS 6.6, Loft Switchblade 6.3-6.8, Point 7 AC-X 6.5 (the champion of the bunch on my log).

Oh boy, That's what the smiley face is for... never mind. Since you are missing the humor organ, let me just say that my experience differs from yours & I can only attribute it to differences in rigging.

Or a defective sail ... but I doubt it. The QUD4 2018 had a belly up front no matter what one did rigging wise. Looks like extra cloth right at the mast opening close to the luff. I am not sure if that is the culprit but the luff did collapse when very overpowered. Firelight 2013 or 2019 do not have the problem.
I love sailing guides. As I keep passion in this thing.
One post and already cynical. Nice hairdo, well at least you have hair
