Gday.
3 weeks ago I had a bit of a midlife rebuild on the shoulder. Now the slow recovery over the next 3-6 months.
Has anyone had a shoulder "recon" and got any tips for returning to sailing.
I am thinking large board, small sail on the flat water.
Cheers.
Yeah I did a few years ago.
Lots of rotator cuff and do it right. The physio I mean.
When it is right and ready you can go sail anything, not just a one design with a 3m sail lol.
I think 3mths is for normal people doing normal sports, you'd probably not windsurf in 3.
So give it 4-6 with the right physio and you will jump right in where u left off
I had mine done this time last year. I'd say about 4 months till I felt good enough to get back on a paddle board for gentle paddling. It takes quite some time to regain strength. At the 6 month final visit back to the Dr I was passed to do what I felt I could. You still don't have full movement by then(only about 75%). It's hard to give solid remarks on how quick you'll get back into it. for me the 6 month mark landed at the end of Feb so the wind was just about gone. I wasn't to bothered to push my self so took a full year off. As you would probably been told by your Dr, It really does take about a year to feel back to 100%.
I'd say don't rush yourself and do the rehab exercises correctly.
All this would probably depend on what you had done as well. I had torn tendons. there are a lot of parts in your shoulder and I'm no specialist on it by a long shot.
Thanks mark and Dave.
I guess I'll take it easy and see how it goes.
I've had torn tendon and berched bicep where they actually cut it in half, realign and screw. Plus a bone scrape and tidy up.
A mate at work had a rebuild. He found that SUPing was a good part of the journey back to windsurfing. From memory he said the actions on the shoulder were lower and less radical. I think he ended up getting hooked on SUPing in the process and found it a nice winter balance to his wave sailing.
Thanks mark and Dave.

Hi Dave.
I had Dr Allan Wang @ Murdoch and he did the op at Hollywood in Nedlands.
all the best for the recovery.
