The NSW Government is looking for people, groups, councils and organisations interested in undertaking a fish friendly project to improve their local waterways and encouraging them to apply for a grant to contribute towards their work.
The Habitat Action Grants are funded by the NSW Recreational Fishing Trust and this year a total of $530,000 is available for fish friendly projects which might rehabilitate an unhealthy habitat ir improve an existing habitat to help native fish find food, take shelter, hide from predators, grow and most importantly to breed.
In previous years grants have been used in a variety of different situations including to:
- remove invasive vegetation and re-establish native plants on riverbanks;
- remove barriers to fish movement;
- re-snag waterways;
- restore natural tides to former estuarine wetlands;
- open floodgates; and
- stabilise eroding river banks.
You've got till 5pm on 15 October 2010 to apply for a grant. All the relevant info can be found here.
