Today, the WA Kitesurfing Association, in partnership with Red Bull announce the inaugural Red Bull Lighthouse to Leighton Kite Race
presented by WAKSA!
The Lighthouse to Leighton Kite Race is an open ocean kite race on Saturday 11th of December 2010.
Just 50 experienced kite surfers from around the world are expected to race across the 19 kilometers of Gage Roads from Natural Jetty/ Phillip Rock to Leighton Beach. With the famous 'Fremantle Doctor' wind blowing, the race is expected to take between 30 and 40 minutes for the fastest kiters and is with in kind assistance from Fremantle Ports and Royal Life Saving WA.
The fastest kitesurfer on the planet, Alex Caizergues will be the headline act as one of the longest kitesurfing races ever to be staged in Australia sets off in Western Australia during December.
"In conjunction with Red Bull, WAKSA, as the host organising authority is absolutely delighted to announce to members of WAKSA, AKSA and international competitors alike this first edition of a truly exciting race concept. It has been long talked about and now its a reality," enthused WAKSA President Justin O'Malley.
"It is the first of its kind in Australia and will be open to 50 competitors in this the first year. We have excellent international interest and are expecting the fastest competitors to be across in about 30 to 40 minutes! The race will only be open to members of WAKSA or AKSA and who have a stated 100 hours of kitesurfing experience.
