New speed limits for Gold Coast waters
A new range of six-knot speed limited have been imposed on some of the Gold Coast's most popular waterways.
Gold Coast boaters have been urged to familiarise themselves with a range of new speed limits imposed that came into force on July 1.
The new and extended six-knot limits include some of the coast's best fishing spots.
Areas affected comprise both major rivers on the coast, the Nerang and Coomera, as well as the popular (and busy) Southport Broadwater, the Labrador Channel, Jacobs Well and Tipplers Passage.
Gold Coast Water Police and officers from the Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol will target excessive speed and boat wash to ensure compliance with the new limits.
A spokesman for Maritime Safety Queensland has urged boaters to consider the effects of boat wash on other waterway users, including canoeists, kayakers, anglers, swimmers and scuba divers.
He urged skippers of recreational craft to be aware of local speed limits before casting off.
