Australias largest builder of aluminum boats, Telwater Pty Ltd, is now shipping tinnies by the container load to Russia, Europes largest emerging economy.

Based at Coomera on Queenslands Gold Coast, Telwater Pty Ltd manufactures welded boats and crafts from aluminum-magnesium alloy under the trade mark Quintrex.

While the aluminum tinnie was once deemed a rough ride, advances in building techniques including improved strength, enhanced design features and the light weight of aluminum have won over Russian fishermen and leisure seekers.

The company was alerted to demand for innovative boat designs in Russia by Austrades Moscow-based Business Development Manager.

Austrades Chief Economist Tim Harcourt says this outstanding export growth is not a one-off result and should be seen in the context of increasing stability and consistent economic growth in Russia.

The Russian Federation has achieved an annual average growth rate of around 7% since 1999 and is diversifying its trading strengths beyond its substantial oil, gas and energy sectors.

Russia is also rapidly becoming an emerging partner in the global economy through trade and outward investment, he said.
