DPI Fisheries - Have your say on draft aboriginal fishing strategy

DPI Fisheries Victoria has released a draft Aboriginal Fishing Strategy for public comment. Fisheries Victoria Executive Director Anthony Hurst said the draft Strategy contained a number of proposals to recognise Aboriginal customary fishing rights, increase Aboriginal participation in fisheries management and improve economic opportunities for Aboriginal people in the fishing industry. Mr Hurst said Fisheries Victoria recognises that Aboriginal customary fishing is unique and separate from recreational fishing.
