Sydney Rozelle Bay Superyacht Marina 'take-over'

The NSW State Government has started looking for a private-sector operator to take over the 'superyacht' marina in Rozelle Bay.

A 'superyacht' is classified as a privately owned vessel that is 30m or more in length and valued at $10M or more.

Ports and Waterways Minister Joe Tripodi said in the lead up to the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, NSW Maritime began work to redevelop Rozelle Bay into a boating precinct.

'With the Games approaching and demand from owners of large private vessels wanting to visit Sydney increasing, NSW Maritime incorporated a facility to handle vessels of up to 70m into the redevelopment,' Mr Tripodi said.

The Minister said the Government gave consent in August this year for the
reconfiguration of the facility. It will have a smaller footprint in the bay and will be reduced in size from 56 to 24 berths.

'But it will still be able to accommodate vessels ranging from 20 metres to
70 metres in length.'

The reconfiguration will also increase the navigable width of the bay by pulling the current mooring line for vessels back 17 metres to the north. The site totals 2.92 hectares and includes a water area of 1.76 hectares and land of 1.16 hectares.

Proposals to manage the facility on a long-term lease will close at 2pm AEDST on February 25, 2009 and the successful lessee is expected to be chosen by mid 2009.

The lease term will be designed to reflect the nature of the proposed investment. NSW Maritime has indicated that only proposals from experienced entities with proven capability to develop and operate the facility will be considered.
