SUP History: Emma Web - first Australian Women's champion
Last month saw further evidence of the success and incredibly quick development of stand up paddleboarding with the inaugural Women's SUP championships.

The contest was held on Town Beach, Port Macquaire, as part of the County Energy Australian Surf Festival.

The conditions were pretty much perfect for stand up paddleboarding, with a solid and consistent one-metre swell breaking into the bay.

Emma Web, a goofy-footer, seemed to prefer the righthanders, and was putting down some solid backhand manoeuvres, including tight cutbacks and re-entries.  The final saw her score two confident 7.5 point rides, and her total was enough to see off the other finalists: Jenny Ryan, Davina Drinan and Sondra Purser.

"It feels good to be a part of SUP history," said Emma following the final. "All the girls were ripping, I feel privileged to come away with the crown."
