Planning a road trip around here at Christmas. Any recommendations on good kite spots? Also what typical wind speeds are there that time of year, hoping to get away with one kite. Thanks in advance Huey

Paunui and Whangamata are both good, although both are popular holiday destinations so heaps of other beach goers! At Xmas you should get some NE seabreezes but I would recommend you take your biggest kite. There are heaps of more isolated beaches along the Coro coast that will be ok on the right winds. If your ok with a 30 min drive, Waihi beach is also worth a look.
