This is in response to what has happened at Woodies , Bondi ect .

We have visitors and newcomers not aware of our "local knowledge".

At Margs they have posted "tribal Law " at the top of the stairs to inform the non locals .

In hanggliding they used to hand out site guides to members and visitors with all safty issues and local restrictions listed for each location along with a rating of experience needed and weather conditions to avoid .

I would like to put together a site guide with our "Tribal laws" outlined so that visitors can understand what is expected of them and can be informed in a polite way by giving them a copy before the agro starts .

Maybe we could include a comp caledar and cover printing costs with some advertising , like the windsurfing calendar .

The biggest problem with this we will be telling them where all our good spots are and we may end up with more crowds in the water .
I don't think so , our best spots are being found already and with no info available on them people are launching from the wrong spots and are kiting with no regard for surfers , windsurfers and flags .

This is only a suggestion and I will NOT do it if there are objections .
Please comment

Mike, this sounds like a champion idea true there will be costs and wat not, but in the end it could save a lot of strife!!! however your are right in mentioning that our "best" spots could become even more overcrowded... im gunna be a fence sitter and see wat every1 else sez! i do not object but im not completly convinced about the "tribal Laws" idea

Great idea from Mike, i know that the tribal law approach works in margs, it's a pretty good idea really so it would make sense to use something that has worked elsewhere.

regarding the 'advertising our best spots', i don't think you'll ever get away from people finding out where our decent spots are. if people come for a kite, they will generally have the patience and persistence to find out where to go etc, so wouldn't it be better if they came with the knowledge that they should abide by certain rules?

if you're kiting in a busy spot, it's way better when it's packed with people who have respect for local rules and knowledge etc... so your idea should go some way to controlling the chaos i would have thought.

at least it's something positive, where there really is nothing so far. can't see any negative myself.

Mike, thats a great idea! SandGroper Kites would certainly be up for some advertising to help pay for the printing costs... and I'm sure if thats my gut feel there would be other commercial operators who would be willing to help... anyway there seems to be more and more foreigners knowing about my fav spot anyway (Penguin Island). There used to be a publication called "The extreme tourist" (probally still going)that is available at backpackers and the like, that is basically a directory of extreme and adventure sports, activities and tours for WA, so maybe if your idea doesnt work you could include the tribal law in this?? If you get it sorted, please contact me 0418 339 335.
