Lach, this sounds like a great opportunity I should avail myself of. Few questions. What kiting gear will I need? I don't have a snow board. What clothing will I need, I don't have snow gear. Accommodation? When will you/we be home? Cheers Mate

Unfortunately weekends are out for me .Drive down after work sun for mon and tues are my time outs . For info re snowkiting NSW you'll find plenty of stuff in the archives here in snowkiting and also over at ski.com.au .There are a few hard core guys that head right out into the back country .I'm a bit more of a latte type myself . I get lift tickets and get out there when its on for a few hours and cruise around the ramshead range and if it all looking good head over to kosci or seamans hut for a look see .my fave spot is to catch the lift up to the top of Karels t bar and walk a few mins set up and go .it is in the lee of a ridge just above it and if its nukin NW the gusts are like bullets ,Latte man here gives it a miss when its like this . Snowkiting in NSW can be hit and miss .Its often either nukin or nothin . Also your got to watch out for cauliflower ice which can shred Leading edges on LEIS" and cut lines .Having said all that I reckon if interested start lurking around the hookup and snowkiting areas . Mon tues are looking good with mod swers likely which means top of Karels is good .you head upwind heading west and there is a big bowl heading up to the ramshead range when you are about 500 m west of Karels .The snow and views up there are sublime . If the wind stuffs out its pretty much all downhill back to thredbo .Having been a fan of PLynn arcs and derivatives initially I have become a recent fan of SLE LEI's (I have used ozones snowfoils too ).the gust reponse is great and the launching is surprisingly easy .i used to battle a bit with the kite sliding all ove the place but now I just chuck a pile off snow on the kite when setting up and its pretty much like a beack launch . I saw a brochure from a couple of guys that give lessons tours at cooma ski hire next to maccas a couple of weeks ago .I'll drop by and get their number or give the ski hire a call .

Heading down with the kids next moon tue wed .Taking kites .Could be on again .Mon was for the keenest (25-40 kts ) and didn't really suit my latte tastes .Tues was epic ,poor ol Joe's tank wasn't quite full after getting smashed on the lifts mon .All was going well until I took him down the cat track and he nearly ended up in the creek .Thos traverses are a killer on snowboards when your tank is nearly empty and your tail bone has been smashed all morning . Anyway we had a great trip . Managed to get to the top of ramshead range .Beautiful snow and smooth wind .Saw a couple of guys in the valley heading out to kosi and charlottes .Wind dropped off to quite light tues arc .Very impressed with the snow performance of the rally and grif TRX .

I had a great trip, it was a fantastic experience. Thanks so much Lach, very much appreciated. Yep, as a novice snowboarder, I paid some dues on the first day and my tail bone bore the brunt. It's still a little sore as I type here, but nothing unbearable. Snow kiting up in that high back country was surreal, an amazing, raw, natural environment that is isolated and untouched. A human is very vulnerable in those conditions, without appropriate clothing one would not last long. If you missed the lift and were caught up there after dark, I doubt you would see the sun rise. A great experience and great company, thanks for the companionship and listening ear Lach, I appreciate the insights and perspectives our conversations afforded me.

No good, safe spots at Perisher Blue Cow. A couple of mediocre spots detailed on this map: https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=207430822816324808184.000441bee2ba4ef95d505&msa=0 You have to walk for the good stuff in NSW. Falls creek in Vic is good if you want quality kiting near a resort.
