Give the back roll a go. I am just getting into tricks as well. Its an easy and extremely satisfying trick. Just look up a few how too's on YouTube. When you start out you don't even need to get a metre off the water. Get up to speed move your kite to eleven or twelve and when your ready carve upwind as much a you can. Pull the bar in and pop off the water (all three things in one motion. look backwards over your shoulder and tuck your legs in. When your come around untuck you legs and land. You don't have to move the kite so it's just board and body work. after you pull it off a few times you can try to add some height to it by moving the kite. it will open up a hole new world to kiting.

Like I said look up how too's on YouTube.

Alot of people can pull this off first try. I did it on my second.

Good luck

Backroll
Frontroll
Railey
Unhooked backroll
Unhooked frontroll
S-bend
Railey to switch
Back to switch
Surface pass
Railey to blind
Back to blind
Backmobe
S-bend to blind
Etc, etc, etc.

Start at the top of the list and work your way down. It should keep you busy for a year or more.
I'm personally a fan of the'Progression' DVD's. Well produced and explains the concepts involved in each trick quite thoroughly which is important as you need to visualise what you're attempting to do.

try grabs on your boosts first and try "loops" before you try rolls, they are easier and done properly they are quiet different tricks. Then make them doubles and try doing grabs on them! you can muck around with your transitions awell, doing aerials and rolling transitions! i think unhooking is probably a 2nd maybe 3rd season progression.. i might be wrong but you need pretty good fundamentals likes balance, brace and control so you can give your self the best chance at pulling them off.

This got me thinking what the difference is between the backroll and the backloop. Looking around YouTube the two terms seem to be molded in to one but I found a glossary for kite stuff on kitsurfingshcool.org and they say that it's a back loop if your board goes above your head. It's called a backroll of your feet do not go above your head. Just thought I'd add this as a FYI. If anyone knows a more official defenition for these two trick post it up

Aspect Ratio, AR: the ratio of a kites width to height (span to chord). Kites can range between a high aspect ratio of about 5.0 or a low aspect ratio of about 3.0.

AR5: The legendary first 4 line inflatable kite manufactured by Naish.

ARC: a foil kite manufactured by Peter Lynn

B

Back Loop: a kitesurfing trick where the kiter rotates backward (begins by turning their back toward the kite) while throwing his/her feet above the level of his/her head.

Back Roll: same as a back loop but without getting their feet up high.

Batten: a length of carbon or plastic which adds stiffness or shape to the kite or sail.

Bear Away / Bear Off: change your direction of travel to a more downwind direction.

Beaufort: scale of wind strengths from 0 to 12. Named after the English Admiral, Francis Beaufort, who invented it. 0 = no wind whereas 12 = hurricane.

It's a back roll, just like it's a front roll.
If you get your feet above your head then you can claim it as an inverted back roll... but that's a bit like claiming first at the uncoordinated olympics; it's just not boast worthy.
The other thing to keep in mind is if it's an actual flip, as in your board goes directly above your head... in which case i'd call that a back flip or front flip.

A loop is used to refer to what the kite is doing, other wise it would be a kite roll.
