The bar is extremely light and we have used them in our school and have stood up to the abuse they receive from students on a daily basis. Mike Please check the safety system the older ones from the beginning of the year have issues, they will not release under load. The little metal tag at the end can spin around and then jams in the red release push away part. The newer ones have heaps of stitching on the black plastic of the chicken loop to stop the metal tag moving. About a third of chicken loop is stitched

Unfortunately no longer own two of these kites. I've had my luggage stolen on my way to the beach.

Hi man, You are absolutely right, and makes perfect sense. The big ones, bigger gap, smaller ones smaller gap. However, it is absolutely useless for us in NSW Northern Beaches to have kites smaller than 10. I've been kiting for almost 1 year and in 35-40 sessions, I never had winds too powerful for my 10. Seriously, no need for small kites there. I've lost my 10 and my 17. I need to look for some new ones. Maybe a Rally 2012, as for the 17, for sure the Griffin.

Fully tried the 13 today. After a couple of rides, I've decided to QR in order to land as it was nobody around. Tried once, twice, starting to panic, third time (pulling with my right hand the middle lines in order to reduce tension and with my left hand pushing the QR). Finally the thing gets loose and the kite drops into the water. So it's true, they do have some issues with the QR. In terms of gusty winds, it seems to behave pretty good. Any other experiences?

What the hell, after someone warned you the QR might fail you fly the kite before fixing it or checking it out on land...lucky nothing went wrong while you were out there or while launching.

I have spoken to CrazyFly and here is their response. Less than 1% of 2012 kites had this issue, but have a read and if you have an issue they will send a new replacement to the shop you purchased your CF kite from. "Yes, we had some issues, but the number of customers getting back to us was very low. We have replaced all faulty chicken loops (complete with safety) required by WA Surf or any other customer. We did not know about these problems untill they were reported to us. Based on this, we made immediate improvements to the safety system and all works well. We know this should not happen, but all brands have issues sometimes. Because the number of complaints about the safety was very low, we did not do a recall of all bars. Faulty safety complaints did not reach 1% off all kites sold during 2012. We have contacted all dealers to check their safety and be on the lookout for issues. As I mentioned, we are happy to replace any faulty chicken loop for a new one. These do not have any issues at all. We understand and I could not stress more, how important it is to have a good safety system. So, we did take this issue very seriously and did everyhting we can to fix the situation. Any customer who feels their safety has issues, should contact the retailer (where they bought the kite) and we will send rpelacement chicken loops to the retailer."

I have to say that I am appalled by that response. Saying that they have only had 1% of customers have had problems when so far in my experience every safety of there's I have tried or heard of has this issue I fell that there should have been a recall on the product. The fix for the jamming issue is just a band-aid fix with just a bit more stiching added to the loop It seem like another manufacture just interested in make a buck and the local importer helping by not saying anything about a faulty product that could cause serious harm or even death Good on you WA Surf for posting their response but you knew there was an issue with the safety on the 18/06/12 when you posted that it was a good product for learning. Why was it left to someone like me to point out these issues If you where not aware of this problem are you saying that the instructors do not do a simulated release as part of there lesson The kites are fine and fly well if a little boring

Was at the beach yesterday, a guy had one of these kites and his safety was jammed and had a hell of a time releasing it on land.Then i come across this thread

The chicken loop release issue only affected the early 2011 manufactured models, CF are replacing any affected CL's free of charge. If you have a CF kite test the QR if its tight at all come and see us or any CF dealer and it will be replaced.
