Tomorrow's forecast looks promising for Melbourne; southeasterly wind 15 to 25 knots throughout the day. The drawback is fully cloudy sky with sustained rain. Also, the low tide occurs at midday which is not favorable for Altona in particular.

Anyway, we haven't had such southerly wind for months. At its highests, wind was northerly to westerly, so I often had to go all the way to the far Eastern suburbs of Rosebud or Brighton rather than taking few steps to Altona beach. Yet, when it is southerly I noticed that Altona has always the lowest wind readings. I was eventually convinced that Altona is only a summer spot that works with sea breeze rather than cold fronts. Tomorrow is gonna put my perception to the test. Hope to see some of you around guys!

We have had quite a good session at Altona today! We expected higher wind but my 12m kite never got me overpowered. My perception was right, Altona has significantly lower southerly and northerly wind than Melbourne eastern suburbs as confirmed by Laverton wind speed readings. Anyway, the wind was picking up every time rain storms come in and it was rideable every hour of the day.

Few kitesurfers were there but due to the cold water not many of us could stay out without boots... Someone underestimated the coldness with only 2mm steamer on, then tried to warm up with 'vodka' and ended up almost drunk!

And hay mate, you left your steamer and I have got it with me.... I guess you should leave it to the next summer season!

What a great session we have had at Altona today! This was my longest session so far, starting as early as 10 am and couldn't stop and pack up till 4 pm when I felt completely shattered. As a beginner kier started only this March, I can't think of any better wind in my local beach than today, pretty steady and high as needed.

I was on myself for most of the time. Peter arrived earlier but didn't stay for long, apparently due to work commitment. Jason then came in the afternoon, retrieved his steamer, and had quite a short session. We shared a good laugh on his boozed up kitesurfing last day. He also commented on how the wind and sky have improved. He missed out the best part though. After 2 pm the tide was getting up and the wind picked up to around 25 knots till I felt slightly overpowered with my 11m Crossbow. Most of our fellow kiters didn't as they started gathering after work. At the end of the day there were just more than a dozen of us kiting along the bay.

I felt sorry for one of our experienced friends who quit early after breaking his rib. He is an experienced kiter, however that landing was not the best and the bar of his modified harness was the culprit to blame. Unfortunately he has to stay out of the water till spring season. Wish him a quick recovery.
