Smart Aluminium list four sizes in T6 tube.
Extruded:- 63.5mm X 6mm (6060 T6), 63.5mm X 6mm (6061 T6) and 76.2mm X 4.75mm (6060 T6). Those two sizes will telescope with 3.2mm slop.

Scaffold:- 48.41mm X 4.47mm (6061 T6) That size will telescope into the 63.5mm tube with 3.09mm slop.

Their nearest shop to you is or was 34 Boulder Road, Malaga, Perth. Ph. (08) 9248 7148

Should be a couple of yachts in it if you buy a 6m length of each.



3.2mm isnt a telescoping fit, its just an unassociated tube that fits over another
i would have a thought about a nice Karri stiffener inside the first 18" of the axle . It would be worth the experiment, now you have a GPS to test with

Think 50 mm PVC drain pipe halved and applied correctly. It has a 2.5mm wall thickness so would need to be tapered at the edges. If that does not work maybe ice cream container plastic would do the job. Failing that it is off to the TAFE teacher with access to material and a lathe.

Whatever. The tubes are T6 and strong enough but just need some material between to take up the slop and carry the loads without disintegrating too soon.

Maybe an exhaust shop with the right machine could expand and/or shrink the tube to the right degree.

Many ways of doing it mechanically with out losing strength by welding and the sizes are close enough to make it worth trying something.

The tube that I will put inside the scaff tube(if required) is a telescopic fit. some spare mast material that I have. It is aircraft quality tube.

with an axle like this that is really going to be working hard the inside tube will want to be solidly fixed, BUT any holes for screws /rivets /bolts will replesent a place for it to fail.
dont forget this axle will be longer than the previous yacht and cant flex inwards , as this will stuff the toe in/out

Knocked up a bit more of the new frame over the last few days, I am happy with it so far. Needs cleaning up a bit when I get it all together

Hi Aus 230
Thanks for asking . Im currently not in the building mode now, it summer here in the states and im taking full advantage of the short summer weather I will continue in the fall and keep you posted with more pictures. I have made some front end changes and wheel changes and will show you when i return to build again. Ilke what your doing with your newest yacht and wish you well on it.
