No new members husq. ccc and poseiden adventure joined 2 years ago. With single digit posts til this thread. There's gotta be a name for that - sleeper cell perhaps ? They've posted more in past 48hrs then previous 2 years - strange. ccc has found a new hobby now.
Well considering I posted this topic I think it reasonable to reply to comments in this thread. obviously a topic that everyone has an opinion on. Can't wait for the weekend and hit up the alley again, hopefully will be lots of people out on hire boards from the boatshed to make things fun. (i.e surfing the alley means surfing with all sorts of craft and abilities, seems pointless to get worked up about it (my view is that newbs shouldn't be out there but thats just the way it is))
Well said Edit: Attention span not great and missed the sarcasm and the part about newbs. We were all newbys once. Not well said - taken back.

Let me just say that after surfing the south end this morning that the alley doesnt have the monopoly on stupidity. I saw and fell victim to some of the most shamefull and pissweak sup surfing that I have ever experienced. In the end we paddled away in disgust and played in some fun little barelling shorey way up the beach. You know, the worst offenders were only average sup'ers but had enough experience to have known better. I am almost ashamed to admit this but its the first time I have told another sup'er to f##k off ! It was a bit of a shame cos the surf was pumping and there were a coupla really nice people out on sups who were not overly experienced but doing a really great job of fitting in and surfing safely.

I dont think the stupidity is isolated to the alley. There was a bloke on a standup at Snapper/Rainbow on Sunday Arvo that caused a few problems. I saw him on two waves, dropped in on both. 1st reaction from the crowd.. and i Quote "f*cn C*nut burning everyone". and im sure he got a similar reaction on his 2nd drop in. The normal crowd was mellow with no hassles except for this guy. Im sure he thought he was killing it, but unfortunatly his style didnt match his bravado!!! Only telling it as i see it..

When i was learning the last place i would like to take the SUP is to one of the GC points. Ok the little insiders at the alley are great for learning and heaps of kids and learn to surf schools there, thats fine they aren't out in the main pack getting in the way losing boards and all kinds of stuff. Why you would want to learn to ride a sup in crowded waves is beyond me.

Firstly I am no enforcer - it is not my way and certainly not my place. I told the person to f##k off away from me not to leave the break - thats not my call. I would rather paddle away like I did today. Secondly there were two starboards out this morning and they were both super nice guys AND they were ripping

well considering you started the thread guns ablazing for someone in a incident that you werent even near (to busy dog paddling back from 7th ave is my guess), put the blame directly on him and showed your disgust for it all. Then to say that it is 80% of the surfer on the wave, responsability to do all the work. and now you say that you would prefer new beginners werent out there.... are you coming or going? sounds like your one of the guys out there that paddles everywhere without direction or a clue. As has already been said. Its not so much the problem with the guy/gal going and buying a board and heading straight out. Yes this does happen, but everyone only has ONE FIRST TIME.... alot of the crap is happening from people that have been paddling long enough to know better. Bill, you are a very very bad angry man....hahaha but you have just proved what is happening The best example of a newbie/s I saw was 2 young girls (about 18 or so) on a couple hire boards. They were having a ball trying to paddle and catch waves, inside from the point, infront of the groin....well out of harms way and well out of anyones way. They were doing very well for first timers and showing what SUP should really be like. During this same sesson, there were a number of guys out the back in the line up, WITH LESS ABILITY, ON BIGGER BOARDS. Leave the ego at home. If your not good enough, go practice somewhere other than a crowed point line up untill you have the ability to control your board and know the rules.

The Alley is not the only spot, but a focal point of what is happening. Yes it happens at snapper to. I have only SUP'd there a hand full of times. It is a hard place on a SUP due to the reverse sweep and pure numbers in the water. Alot of dropping in goes on there regardless of board type. I have seen a guy out there on a sup, get on waves early, wide, and fade people. Im pretty sure he surfs there regulary on LB's also...so a bit of the local wank factor involved... its a great wave that I cant wait to SUP when its not school holidays or a weekend.

husq you might want to refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man The straw man fallacy occurs in the following pattern of argument: Person A has position X. Person B disregards certain key points of X and instead presents the superficially similar position Y. Thus, Y is a resulting distorted version of X and can be set up in several ways, including: Presenting a misrepresentation of the opponent's position. Quoting an opponent's words out of context — i.e. choosing quotations that misrepresent the opponent's actual intentions (see fallacy of quoting out of context).[2] Presenting someone who defends a position poorly as the defender, then refuting that person's arguments — thus giving the appearance that every upholder of that position (and thus the position itself) has been defeated.[1] Inventing a fictitious persona with actions or beliefs which are then criticized, implying that the person represents a group of whom the speaker is critical. Oversimplifying an opponent's argument, then attacking this oversimplified version. Person B attacks position Y, concluding that X is false/incorrect/flawed. This sort of "reasoning" is fallacious, because attacking a distorted version of a position fails to constitute an attack on the actual position.

Poseidon, you might want to stop clutching at straws, Learn the basic surf rules, and figure out how not to get swept 2km down the beach btw all the points I stated you were saying are in your posts. Quotes would be easy to oganise.....but not nessecary if that doesnt work, please refer to:
