Meeting half way makes it easier as you don't have to worry about car shuffles and also acts as a good warm up.

Thanks for everyone coming down this morning. We had 21 turn up for the start, only 2 guys did the 3.5km, the rest did the 5km.Light tail wind, but very strong current. It was interesting seeing a few paddlers using drafting, it certainly makes a significant difference to effort and a good skill to learn. I had to dash off to work unfortunately so I don't know how the coaching clinic went, dale would certainly have some good tips as he was fast! Hopefully everyone had a good time and catch up after, great to see a range of old and new faces. A big thankyou to Adam for starting and finishing us. Times for 5km Dale 36:00 Alain 36:00 Darren 36:15 Reece 36:20 Greg 36:20 Cam 37:45 Ben ? Hilly 38:00 Roger 38:20 Luke 38:30 Lach 38:52 Kevin 39:10 Stimo 39:24 Todd 43:42 Tim. 44:42 Lauren. 46:20 I'll add the boards later - sorry on my iPhone Hopefully some more girls next time!

Great to see such a big turn out 20 crew I think good to see Darren's crew there , Good to see the pace from the guys from the east Dale smashed it with Alan hard on his tail think Greg's posting times so keep a look out killer tide so times a bit slower than normal . Thanks DC for the tips and letting us have a look and run on the new DW board that won't be going back to the east for sure

Hey guys, What a great day today! Most of WA's paddling elite were on hand to catch up with Dale, and Team DC and do the time trial. It was great lining up with so many paddlers at Pt Walter and certainly brought back strong memories of last years Classic Paddle. Todays run was against one of the strongest tides I have ever seen on the river, just crazy! Great conditions for a fun trial. I really enjoyed the Time Trial and have to thank Stimo, Greg, and the lads for putting on a great morning. Thanks to Ads for being starter, lead boat, finisher and timekeeper. It was great meeting Dale and Alain after the TT and hear what's going on in their world with training, racing and future boards. We (WA) need to step it up a tad more. One thing is for sure, racing in WA is on the right track and in good hands. Cheers to everyone who raced and supports WA racing. And big ups to Lorrayne being the only female paddler to do the 5 km course and in good time. DM

Thanks for the day everyone! It was good to get back on the water after a little hibernating, made it a bit painful though. I have moved to Mandurah and will be paddling more now that I am settled, if anyone ever wants to train on the inlet, ocean or river systems let me know as I think it could get a bit lonely down here and would be good to push a bit harder with other's, I know Marcus will be heading down once a week for a paddle so anyone else keen is very welcome. I will make the trip up for the 1st sat of each month for sure, hopefully it won't hurt as much next time :) p.s thanks to Dale for coming over, sorry I couldn't hang around. Ben

Hello everyone, looks like u had a really good turn out for this. Seems like theres a lot of keen paddlers at the moment. Just a suggestion but does anyone think it could be a weekly thing? I try and paddle every chance I get but always push harder when there is a crew of paddlers.

There now seem to be a couple of regular training groups. Darren runs his groups and there is the south of the river crew also. Perhaps we may get some state of origin competition happening between north and south which can only be a good thing. I can't do the sat morning thing due to kids sport, but I'm keen for an early Sunday morning if abyone's keen.

Marcus A regular Saturday morn run would be good, i now realise how unfit i am after Saturdays run! You would need to give me about a 20min start though! I'm sure there would be some more crew if theres no swell around. Sundays i have the kids sport thing happening!

Hi Marcus Kev and I run 3 sesssions a week - Tuesday and Thursday at 0515 and Saturday usually at 0630 (unless there is swell). We have an organised training program we work to, so there is alot of variety and intensity. There are usually 5 of us out, you are more than welcome to join us, meeting at Zephrs cafe - north carpark at the above times. PM me if you are keen. We thought it best to have the time trial monthly, weekly would lose a little motivation to back it up each week - also Darren has his 10km session on Sat morning, which some of us and others also participate in. Our usual Saturday session will be a long endurance session of 2hours 75% steady state or fartlek training. All welcome. I should explain, our group started out as kev and myself (we are both physios) getting together to use our combined experience to train and push our programs. Local guys came down and joined in with us, it is great fun and good motivation. I personally feel that in SUP there should be no club like boundaries, so a north vs south idea seems a little outside the inclusive nature of SUP. I really enjoy joining in Darrens 10 km session on saturday mornings, it is awesome to have that option if the guys go surfing. Over the next month there is a development that is coming to fruition - when it comes about there will be some exciting options in WA SUP. Cheers Greg

I can highly recommend training with Greg and Kevin. They train hard and know there stuff when it comes to getting the most out of your body, training sessions, and paddling.

hi guys Dale and I were stoked to be in WA this week end as we had 4 very good days. Just to let you know, if anybody is interested into training it's a good idea to contact Mick di betta. The guy won the molokai 3 time, coached Jamie Mitchell for most of his victories on the molokai as well and is really passionate about training. Kelly margets is following his program and the kid that just won the survival race in waikiki is coached by kelly... There is not much luck into all these good results. If you are serious about training contact him and I think it will save you a lot of time and mistakes. You could even follow his training as a group as we do. Just type mick di betta on facebook and you'll find him He would put you up a program to be in top form just for the doctor for example. Anyway thanks to everybody we paddle with, it was great fun

Did the same run with Hilly last year but with the breeze in the opposite direction. Best downwinder ever. The estuary has a lot of potential especially as you get no cross swell.

Stoked you guys are getting your **** together over there, would be sick to be able to travel around aus and go to different training squads !!! If you want from the best SUP coach around then contact Pete Dorries!! he posts on here some times so he's easy to get a hold off!! out of our crew that train here alot are doing really well overseas and i have seen the progression of the people training to see his meothods work!!! IMO alright thats enough talking him up as he will get a big head.. On another note if i put on a paddling camp with coach's like Pete and maybe guys like Trav and even myself and lined it up with a good event on the Goldy would it be enough to get guys and girls from WA to come over for a full on W/E? I am happy to get somthing good going for everyone if there are the numbers to help support it!! Cheers Jacko

I think there would definitely be people keen, however I don't know how many people would be keen to fork out $500 - $700 for a weekend, when you add in flights, accommodation etc. Alternatively if we could get enough people and do a couple of sessions and charge say $100 to cover yours, Pete's, Trav's whoever elses transport would you be interested? Might be easier to bring the few to the many than the other way around if you know what I mean. I know even the little session you did before the Dr this year helped, even though the conditions were terrible,.

You might get a few Viccos to help make up the numbers.

Great idea cam. I know the mandurah club had some ski clinics over the summer that involved flying a top coach over to run, and i think the turn out made it worth running. I'm sure there would be at least 30 people here that would attend a clinic run by someone such as Pete Dorries or the equivalent. I'd be in!

I don't see why!! This is just MO, I'm sure there are heaps of great coach's out there and on the goldy we are blessed with quite a few from where I sit I like the way pete teaches and so do alot of other people. You might think someone else is better and thats sweet that's just how life is.

I am totally convinced Pete is good and I know a lot of people like him. I am not contesting anything. I just found a bit strange as a statement to say “he is the best coach” Maybe start another thread “who is the best coach?” so everybody can have a go
