2MT CEO of Watersport TAS (tassies answer to Jim Terrell) droped of his latest all bamboo paddle to me this morning, couldn't wait to get in on the water, though i was a bit worried that they don't carry any dihedrel on them and i didn't think i would be able to handle the flutter.Shouldn't have been worried, when you put it in the water it stays just where you plant it, felt just as light and fast as the quickblade kahanna that i have been using for the last 3 years, but with the flex of the fanatic 80% that i use on longer paddles to save my shoulders, the only ones that will have a problem with these will be the pandas when all their bamboo is cut down to keep up the supply for the paddles, though they do remind me a bit of the leaf rake my family had when i was a kid, don't know if you can still get them at Bunnings. 650 grams Great to see something like this been made right here in Tassie. (i am not one of the 2MT team riders)

The 2MT team have been using the protos leading up to these latest "all bamboo" numbers for two years now. We were using the same blade design, which has evolved in the slalom canoe comp discipline over many decades, in wood, with a carbon shaft. The wood blades snapped occasionally and the carbon shafts got too expensive .. so we went bamboo .. RRP $250 ex factory TAS. All organic, craftsman built .. even custom flex. They feel good and look so natural .. carbon tax free.

got a couple of shots of the bamboo beauty in action this arvo, just before the rain came. do others wear their sailing boots when suping ? you have to feel good about using one of these when you think of the energy that is going into making a carbon paddle. would i swap one for my quickblade ? no i don't think so. would i swap one for my fanatic 80% ? i think so.

Love to try one out ... only way to know if they're any good or not. Also wonder if they snap cause my last paddle carbon fibre paddle lasted two weeks before I snapped it half way down the shaft

I actually surfed with one of these paddles at the Tassie titles recently and was very very impressed with it. First impression was that the blade had so much power and no hint at all of any cavitation (wobble) during the paddle stroke. I stopped using larger blades a couple of years ago as I found I just wasn't strong enough to maintain the cadence required of such a large blade, and as such I was putting undue strain on my joints. These paddles though cause no strain on the body and the power increase is very noticable over my starboard carbon. The only thing I didnt like about the paddle was that I thought the blade was a tad heavy compared to what I normally use - however this has been addressed in the latest paddles. What I really loved about the paddles though is the amazing feeling of the natural bamboo shaft - it's incredible to hold and just seems to mold into your hand and fingers. Great work Tony - beautiful looking, powerful and affordable paddles mate - very very impressed.

that's the other good thing about them Doggie ... when they get washed up on the beach your dog retrieves them for you .. Dogs won't touch a carbon paddle .. they won't even piss on them that's how ecologically evil those carbon things ARE. sorry, I didn't really mean that .. I don't know what came over me. 2MT

How do these paddles go at longer lengths? Do they flex out too much? I have made a few wooden paddles and the only way I could get them stiff was with Carbon tape. They look great though, nice work.

That paddle that Riverider is testing is the lightest and shortest and softest that I've built .. looks even shorter perched up ontop of that race board. Because the bamboo shaft material comes in a mix of diameters and is slightly tapered and overlength; the shafts can be selected and trimmed to suit any degree of stiffness. The blades come in three different builds of stiffness/weight. The paddle comes as a one-piece unit because the splicing of the shaft to blade is a hand crafted fit from warying diamerer shafts. Havn't broken any yet .. it will happen .. there are a few out there now and the team riders take no prisoners, so to speak.

See post immediately above CMC Also they can be as long and stiff as you like. Sounds like a good motto. 2MT
