Hi Everyone the next SUPWA event is the Commonwealth Bank - Bridge the Bank SUP Team Challenge, Sunday September 16th. The race is a relay for teams of 2 paddlers over 13km. The first leg is 8km and the 2nd leg is 5km. There are only two divisions: 1. Mixed - male and female 2. Male Paddlers can use the same board or different boards. The boards will be handicapped using a novel system. Board length is totalled - ie a 12'6 and 14' board = 28.5/100 = 0.28. This factor is applied to the overall time. This means we can cater for multiple board lengths and keep the racing/results interesting. There are 2 courses depending on the breeze direction. The first course will be from the Narrows Bridge in Perth directly to the change over at the Point Walter Spit (8km), then onto the Stirling Bridge in Fremantle (5km). The 2nd course will be in the opposite direction. On the water safety will comprise of 2 safety boats and there will be officials to assist with the change over station at Pt Walter. The nature of 2 paddler/board team racing means it is very easy with car drop offs - plenty of parking at Pt Walter after dropping off at Narrows Bridge. There is $1500 worth of prize money and prizes on hand. Our main sponsor Commonwealth Bank has put up the prize money and competitor bags. SOS Surf & Stand Up Paddle has put up prizes and door prizes. The Trade Winds have put up a $500 weekend stay at the Tradewinds for a lucky person/couple drawn at the presentations. The presentations will be held at the Tradewinds Hotel immediately after the race. Meals are included in the entry fee and the venue is very kid friendly. There will be a draw for a Sly Dog Carbon Paddle from SOS Surf for all competitors that enter as well as the Tradewinds weekend stay prize draw. Time ~ 0800 Narrows Bridge (note times may change if course direction changes) Entry Fee - $20 for SUPWA members (includes meal at Tradewinds presentations). $30 for non-SUPWA members. We have many events planned for the year, this is our fun event! If you want to get involved in racing and want to see some different winners, this is your event. Get the family down after as well. Thanks to Cam and Luke as well as Scott from CBA, John from SOS Surf and the Tradewinds Hotel. Alot of effort has gone into this event. Cheers Greg SUPWA

Awesome effort by the bearded one. Galvo's through to the next round, second in his heat and apparently the Jacko bro's are on fire, first and second in their heats but unfortunately will be surfing gainst each other in the next round. Quote from the Surfing Festival website about 30 mins ago: "Surfing with extreme style and power in the SUP surfing contingent was the Jakovich brothers from Western Australia. Ricks impressive maneuvers, gave him a solid 15.65 heat score and he moves through to round two where he will surf against his brother Jake." Rob

After watching the first two heats of the day anyone managing to get 15+ points in their heat had to be on fire! Waves were small but fun and contestable. Oh and bridge the bank is going to be a fun one. Everyone get your teams lined up as there are plenty of prizes for not only race winners but anyone at the presentations.

Hi Juddy and everyone. Please email greggokerr@gmail.com to register. I'm doing the timing for this event. Provide: 1. Division - mixed or male 2. Name of your racing partner and boards you will use 3. State which board will paddler and board will start (we will start in waves according to board length - so as to keep the group contained - DoT requirement) Payment can be made on the day or via direct deposit to SUPWA (details provided when you email) Entries close on Wednesday the 12th of September, so please book in early so we can get an idea of numbers for the Tradewinds. Start list and results will be published on http://www.racesplitter.com/start-lists

Oops, thanks should have been 26.5 - long post, late at night. We have to convert it to a decimal number. Hence 12'6 x 2 = 25.

Where did you see the results for the bop stimo? I finished 11th yesterday only 1 second out of the top 10, so slightly disappointed but still pretty happy to be at the pointy end of the field.

Hi everyone, For those of you that might not have a partner for the race, we can match you up with someone - not a problem. Safety No PFD's are required for the event, but please bring a leash -these are mandatory as we can't second guess the conditions on the day. Feel free to get you entries in early. Cheers Greg

Getting some good numbers south of river where's all the north river crew Think the 6 min handiecap on the open boards is going to be a bit of a test ! See some 10 footers in there should they start before the 12/6 race boards ? Looking forward to the beer at the tradewinds Hotel could be a big day Should only take two beers

We have to do a wave start like the Avon to keep the group together. The Avon had 2minutes between waves of 12'6 and then 14'/unlimited. You caught the 12'6 leaders at halfway Stimo! We will have 3minutes between waves for the BTB - not a handicapped start, just logistical to keep the authorities happy. The handicapping is in the final formula. The 10' boards could have an advantage!

She knows because she was talking to my wife about it the other day, got me in trouble as I hadn't mentioned it to my wife and as the race director had nothing to hide behind.
