Hi, just wondering if anyone knows of some demo days on the goldy, I want to try out something in around the 8'2 range, currently ride an 8'6 (I'm only 70 odd kg)but find it a bit crap in small fat waves and think something a bit looser and lighter might be better. Wondering what would be a good board for those types of conditions that can do turns on. Cheers

The Starboard Demo trailer was up here for a month but went back down to NSW a few weeks ago. Best option is to talk to one of the shops, they may or may not have demo's in that size, but they can definitely provide you with information on the different range of boards available, and what could be coming out in the 2013 ranges over the next few months. They're also usually the first to know about upcoming demo days if any of the distributors will be running them. At 70kg I'd recommend looking at the 8'0 Starboard Pro, compared to some other board around the same length, it's got a bit more volume which makes it easier to paddle and push onto fat waves (which sounds like what you're after), but once on a wave it's loose and fast and if you get the carbon construction, it's one of the lightest surf sup's on the market. At 80kg I ride it's big brother the 8'5 Pro and find it good fun in most conditions. I've surfed the 8'0 a bit, and love the way it surfs, but for my weight it's hard work in less than ideal conditions when there's a bit of wind or light chop. At 10kg lighter than me you shouldn't have any trouble on the 8'0 and might even be able to consider looking at the 7'7?

I don't know if they have any boards that size for you, but do know SurfFX do a demo morning every Saturday at Budds Beach. Maybe give them a call and see what boards they could get along there for you to try.
