A great weekend, & great conditions. Sponsors for the event included Surfing WA, HIF, standuppaddlesurf.com.au and Starboard...
BOP Race Around 10 competitors set off, 6 or so got through the waves no dramas, but the remaining 4 got clobbered and wrapped in weed, destroying all chances of a decent finish... luck of the draw. Here's Galvo smashing through a set like a ocean line in a storm ..

And what happens on a raceboard when heading for the finish, and you get on too big a wave... He came into shore, got a fresh paddle & finished the race... too cool.

1st - Reece Muir 2nd - cam McKay 3rd - mike galvin 4th - Brett mason 5th - Rob porzig Unfortunately Reece was on a 14ft board so wasn't eligible for prizes or selection for the state team which will be announced in coming days. Another well run event by SWA in excellent conditions. Big congratulations also to the female competitors who finished with very respectable times.

Open results. 1. Jake Jakovich 2.Rick Jackovich 3. Crawford Olney 4. Mike Galvin Jake (pic. 1) and Rick (pic.) 2 are 1st and 2nd respectively in our SUP State Titles. They have been champion short boarders in the past, they shape their own boards (7'4"s generally) and have indicated they will be going to the national titles in August. Those of us who witnessed their surfing over the 3 rounds of state titles ( and in free surfing) are more than quietly confident they are going to make a big impression at the nationals and hopefully beyond.

Thanks for that Fergus. Good to see the young one taking one off the elder bro. Yep they both rip and should do some damage at the Nationals. Lets hope there is some decent waves for them to show their true worth.

Would this be a good time to mention that the usual haunts down here were pretty big and empty?

I got to see some of the longboarders first hand in the lineup while they were freesurfing in between those heats. The majority of Longboarders that reside at SH are a bit older and just happy cruising down the line, soo seeing these younger guys and girls tear up was awesome to watch. They were well mannered and shared the waves too!
