Hi Peeps, This morning was the first Short Course, flat water, BOP style, race in Perth and I'm stoked to say was well attended. We got down nice and early and worked out the course then layed the marks to produce a fun 900m course. We used our inflatable buoys and a fixed channel marker. The course featured about an 100m run leg in between each lap. The race was a total of 2.7km after 3 laps. We had 12 starters most of whom were on raceboards. First race started just after 7am and was amazing to watch. As starter/photog and timekeeper I missed the first race and raced the second. Times, in order of sign on, are as follows: Cameron Fanatic 12'6" Race 1 1st 15:56 Race 2 1st 15:59 Darren Fanatic 14' Race 1 DNS Race 2 2nd 16:20 Luke Starboard 12'6" Race 1 7th 18:50 Race 2 7th 18:42 Tim Starboard 12'6" Race 1 4th 17:48 Race 2 8th 18:58 Bart Starboard 12'6" Race 1 9th 19:24 Race 2 9th 19:35 Rob Fanatic 12'6" Race 1 8th 19:02 Race 2 DNS Tom Naish 10' ? Race 1 11th 23:18 Race 2 10th 23:55 Luke F Fanatic 11'6" Race 1 10th 22.26 Race 2 DNS ** Kevin NSP 10'6" Race 1 2nd 17:28 Race 2 4th 17:31 ** Loch Amundson 12'6" Race 1 6th 18:35 Race 2 6th 18:23 Roger Starboard 12'6" Race 1 3rd 17:37 Race 2 5th 18:06 Brett Starboard 14' Race 1 5th 18:04 Race 2 3rd 17:12* * Brett changed boards to Hobie 14ft for second race ** Kevin and Luke both rode on round nose boards :-O The racing was fun and very exciting. Everyone put in a big effort and worked hard, especially for those who put in for the second race. Conditions were excellent and we will be back in another month for another race event and we'll be even better prepared. Thank you to everyone for turning up and making the morning a great success. Congratulations to Cam for his convincing wins and to the helpers one and all. Here's a few images of the fun ... Many more if you are interested, PM me. DM

Check out the flex on Kevin's paddle in the 2nd shot! Great turn out for a first event, shows there is definitely people interested in flat water racing in Perth and the plans we have are only going to make it bigger.

Thanks Darren for organising the event it was a great day. Kasey and I spent the rest of the day paddling around on the river and we are both feeling it now. She is keen to be the first female across the line for the next race. and the kids want to race too. look forward to making the next race. Tim.

Hi Pullin, Yep, that'd be Roger. He puts in a good show on the flat water too! @ Tim, it was a great morning and we have a couple of girls chompin' at the bit to get into training and racing too, so it seems we may have witnessed the birth of a competitive female SUP race division. Yewwww! C'mon girls, like Quickblade say, "Train Hard, Go fast and have fun". We've decided on our second race event, The Stand Up Paddle Perth BOP race at Trigg. All welcome to come and play. Standard BOP style race with "M" shaped course in the waves with a beach sand run leg between laps. Two races in same format as the flat water race. Racing begins at 7am, briefing at 6.45am and Sign in from 6am. We will be further south of the Trigg SLSC away from the surfers and other water users. Keep an eye on our FB event site for more details and to register your interest in racing. www.facebook.com/standuppaddleperth Get ya race on! DM

Rest easy Jenkz, he coughed up a lovely piece of 130 x 19 jarrah floorboard yesterday after a downwinder - he looked much better after that !
