Well both Chrispy and I enjoyed catching up with the local sup crew, some nice be it small waves clean and perfect weather.
|
|
|
well starlet gc was the winner in my books..
i would like to know where all the spectators were though. one longboarder and a confused short/long/sup boarder were there...but nobody else.
thought more sup crew would be out checking all that went down. oh well i guess its just easier talking about it on seabreeze
|
|
|
What i found funny was , it wasnt the longboarders or shortboarders hanging in the contest zone i was other suppers But your right Mac just another day in Paradise Some nice surfing going down too

The bank was way out and from my view there was some good surfing happening.

I reckon that's fantastic to hear that regardless of the watercraft we ride - it's one big happy family. The 666's mixing in with the *COM's.
No BBQ ? WTF. I only go in Sup races for the BBQ.

In the over 40's final
1st Andy Smith (NSW)
2nd Ritcho
3rd Piros
4th Pete Dorries
With Andy being from NSW myself & Ritcho qualified for the Aussies , pretty stoked.
The mens was such a battle with all the talent in the field , it was a long day with heats , quarters , semis then the final. Dogman was on the mic all day just cracking up the crowd , classic calling at it's best The girls final was so good to watch they just charged it in changing conditions.
Another professionally run event by surfing Queensland , the scoring was different to other contest with scores going to more big moves than length of ride , so dish panning was thick and fast along with big rail turns and bucket chucking.

Pretty funny, not quite sure what was with the super high heart rate at the end! maybe it was me hearing Billys score!! LOL

yeah pretty sure 5 waves, crazy how the heart rate was the highest when i was on the wave surfing. Good to see surfing is really just like training as well!!

Well done guys!
Hey interesting stuff on the Garmin Jacko. I have always thought the SUP surfing was a pretty good workout but those heart rates are much higher than I would have imagined.
|
|

Yep Surfing is a great workout for your racing> Your so focused on the waves and having fun you don notice the workout.
Been a comp your not stopping for a rest or slowing down to cruise out so its a top work-out.

I surfed close by on my LB & watched Jackson Close & Billy Watson in the semis, tough heat, and then Piros & co in the over 40s.
Noticed a couple of non-comp SUPs going over to the bank the comp was on.
Would have been hard to see from the beach without binoculars.

Go Smitty! Good to see him doubling with a win in the 40s and the Kingscliff Amateur Division!
Looks like he gets a start in the Aussies after reading the Qld Surfing website...
Meanwhile, Anthony Smith (Cabarita, Qld – 14.67) caused an upset for the local contingent in the O/40 mixed gender division, outpointing Steve Richardson (Currumbin, Qld – 11.27), Robert Pirie (Sorento, Qld – 9.73) and Pete Dorries (Elanora, Qld – 8.10) who finished second to fourth respectively.
Cabarita must be in the hazy Qld/NSW catchment zone too, good to see!

Thanks Mixup, I would like to surf for Qld instead of driving 10 hrs for a NSW comp.
I've noticed your still flying under the radar after your NSW state title win.It would've been nice to catch up at the aussies but I'll be on a boat in the Maldives then anyway

what a good comp
but where was the after party with bands n booze and the odd taco stand
what i saw at the comp thru my beer googles
was a very hi level of surfing going down from everyone and i mean everyone .....ripping it
and i think qld dont have too much to worry about at the aussie titles this year in all divisions
unless something like a "mysterious bug" goes thru there camp and wipes them all out........... which can be arranged
the event was blessed with great waves for the entire comp
with not even a dud heat that had nothing on offer
hats off to the surfing queensland motley crew for doing it tough trying to pick a compeditor from free sup'er at times during the morning with the intence glare from the sun and fresh hangovers......not my finest moment in my life losing my sunnies the day before
it was great to sitdown and "spray crap at everyone" via those lovely bose speakers and i got to watch everyone having crack out in the water
...........till next time everyone
ps. if you see me rolling around in a gutter along the goldcoast strip in the next few days just give me a pat and a good kick up the butt to move me along

To all the fans out in paddle land....The Dogman will be on the mic at the Golden days BOP and SUP surf event on the Sunny coast. Happy days!

Great work on the Mic Roger, glad I got on the loosers bus early and didn't wait for the BBQ/beer
