Hi Guys This weekend (23-24th June) is the final round of the SUP surfing titles at Avalon Pt Mandurah. The best 2 results from the 3 rounds count toward qualification for the SUP Nationals in Port Macquarie in August. Aside from the exciting and talented surf division, there will also be the final Technical Race - 3-5km. Come down and check out the action! *unfortunately I'm tied to a crib at moment, but hopefully I might get a pass.

I wonder if the surfing will be at Avalon?? Not looking good for Avalon on the current swell forecast for the Saturday. Does anyone know where they will move it if no waves??

Hear what your saying Wezzy. The NE wind will be side/on shore won't it. Not over familiar with the area but is Tim's an option? Not sure how flexible SWA are either maybe we should give Justin a ring?

From I understand there are a number of options with respect to the weather. More details on Wednesday. PS - Rog would normally be doing this, but he is working offshore at present

Hey Greg can you confirm the tech race is 12'6 boards only? Cheers R

Hey Rob, I think to qualify for nationals you need to be on a 12'6, but you can still race on a 14, well that's the way it was down in Yallingup for round 1. Having said that, places were awarded on line honours. Think from memory 1st and 2nd were both on 14's, not sure what happened in Denmark.

I'm pretty sure everyone just raced on whatever they bought down at Denmark. Dont think we quite have the numbers to run two divisions for 12'6 and then 14's, but I could be wrong. Lets hope theres a good turn out.

Wow, that's news to me bout only being on a 12'6 to qualify. I woulda definately used a 12'6 in yalls if I knew that:( I did ask at the event what the go was with board size and was told to use whatever. Having only a 14 dc at the time I chose to use that to support my sponsor.

Just heard from Justin from SWA, and it is more than likely to be moved to Secret Harbour on Saturday. Should be some good banks there at the moment so could be fun!! They will then see what the swell rise brings to Avalon for the Sunday

It was news to me when people showed up at the start line with 14's and then awarded line honours at presentations. When I questioned it I was told it was to boost numbers. The surfing Australia and ISA rules say that the technical race is on 12'6s. I think it was a matter of mis communication on the organisers behalf but that is one of the benefits of SUPWA taking over the organisation of the races and everything falling in line.

yeah i know what u mean cam, im sure it was fustrating for that to happen to you. i had a 12,6 fanatic with me because my small dc hadnt arrived yet. if i knew that using a 14 would affect the qualifications i would have used it without a second thought. i totally understand what surfing wa was saying it was to boost numbers, without the 14s allowed in the race it woulda made a small fleet even smaller. im also extremely stoked that we now have supwa and really appreciate the people who have dedicated their time to it.

I spoke to Justin and if any of the race guys missed close of registration on Wednesday, he will allow late registration and I have a few spare 12'6" race boards, so give it a go. See you on the weekend. Rob unfortunately don't have any Proto 2013 Wave boards, the only ones in Australia are the ones that Justin Holland used in Tahiti that he paddled to 3rd place and he isn't letting them go... Ian

Looks like Rick and Jake are doing well along with Galvo and Pete. Any photos from today?

After seeing Rick and Jake down at Yalls earlier in the year in 8-10ft onshore mess, I can't imagine how good they would be in clean conditions.

Just got back. The whole event was run at Secrets, including the BOP. Pretty good conditions, offshore winds, and enough decent waves for everybody to have a chance. Swell picked up today over yesteday, was some pretty gnarly closeouts (as is the norm at Secrets!) And yeah .. Rick & Jake tore it up, and Galvo a standout as well. Got some great photos, will have them online today/tomorrow...
