I was wondering if anybody has taken sups on Air Mauritius and whether there were any dramas. The airline is saying nothing over 2mt in length but then say windsurfers are allowed for $30? I guess it will be a matter of turning up at the airport and hoping for the best.
Ioz WA 359 Posts	Posted 07/07/2012, 12:41 pm Hey Tim, that is the go , rock up to the airport and perhaps just say it as windsurfer - as the website does say they will not take the longer boards. they also told me that when i phoned up to, but i see there was x 4 windsurfers on my flight and they did not have a problem, hell - i had to pay extra just for my surfboards ! (did not take my sup in the end, but threw the kites in instead) - 40kg in all. Stay away from the white short local surfers, they have the worst attitude i have ever seen surfing around the world - and they do Mauritiius a real injustice. You cannot even reason with them I spit in their general direction !! (from afar of course) Though supping you will be able to avoid them, i end up hiring a great wave board of a nice french guy who was not a white short, and had a sweet ride !

Scotty88 Vatican City 4214 Posts	Posted 07/07/2012, 1:18 pm Last August I rocked up to Sydney Airport with my 14ft SUP and had no probs getting it checked in with Air Pacific - turned some heads at the airport. Hope Air Mauritius are just as kind for you.

Interested to see how you go :-) Rob

I found this which to me says you can bring items over 200cm but you will be charged $200 USD "Sports equipment that does not exceed 200cm in dimension (Length + Width + Height) may be included in your baggage allowance. On non-European routes (excluding Rodrigues), if the total weight of the baggage, including sports equipment, exceeds the normal allowance, a fee per one-way trip will be charged for each set of equipment within a 20 kg limit as follows: South Africa/Reunion/Antananarivo routes – EUR 20 Other routes (excluding Europe and Rodrigues) – EUR 40 Please note that a fee per piece of USD 200 (departing from non-European destinations) and EUR 200 (departing from European destinations) will be charged for any sports equipment exceeding 200 cm in dimension (Length + Width + Height). These fees also apply to diving bottles and hunting trophies which cannot be included in the baggage allowance." Ioz WA 359 Posts	Posted 08/07/2012, 7:10 pm One eye can be "all time" but needs all the factors to line up to be so, like anywher i suppose, if it is smaller, definatley suppable - though not many crew go out there. No - the white shorts are only bully boys on their sufboards, they have the fear of kiting one eye i think, my theory is a couple of them probarly got taken out over the years, as it can be a life threatening wave to kite down the line and take it on. and looks like the angry boys aren't into supping either, but more so the new french locals who are a lot more approachable as well are the Creol locals.
