im wondering what average speed is for pros, fit amature, and normal enthusiast over a 10 km course in moderate ocean conditions on a 12'6 BOP board. i paddle alone and want to know if i stand any chanceof not being last in a race.

In calm conditions the top of the fleet here in Auckland average around 5 knots, the back of the fleet is around 4 knots. Have a look at the time trial results in this forum, they should provide a bit more of an insight. Don't be worried about being last, racing is a good way to measure your improvement if you are not analyzing your GPS tracks.

thanks. that is 7,4 km/hr and 9,25 km/hr. I would be off the back of the back. I have paddled only about 20 sessions and am 52 yrs, fit but not a strong upper body. I clocked average 6,1 km hr over 7km but that included a 5 -10 min rest at turnaround point. take away the rest periods and I guess I'd be at back of pack. thinking of entering a fun race later this month....
