having for a long time been a closed minded rider of short boards only, one day i opened my eyes and realised that on some days the guys on the long board was having fun and i was grovelling
unless your living in say sw or nw of WA where its consistent for a sb then to get a regular surf fix you need to mix it up.
sure you can say oh i will just do something else but nothing compares to feeling natures power through catching a wave.
short boarding long boarding body surfing or even a lid on certain novelty waves i love it all. I dont kite or sup but thats more lack of funds issue than dislike.
If older me had one thing to say to younnger me it would be open your mind and add a long board to your quiver and stop the grovel or even turning your back on surf because its not big enough.

for the record, i have my urges to shortboard again, do it for a couple of weeks, then lose interest. so these days sup surf, but my main interest is dw winding which everybody should be doing- surfing the ocean.
there actually a fair few blokes around the traps that are avid shortboards, don't surf sups, but are into dw ing.
then you have a guy like parko getting into paddle boards and is doing a molokai team race
the boys in the lb forum are trying to get me lb ing, but i can't quite bring myself to do it yet
