I did my homework but didn't find any. Anyone know of a 8.5 sail that would rig on a 4.60 mast ?

My 8.4 TR8 rigs on a 460. Needs 28cm of extension, so you need a decent extension to go with it.

The pryde helium 8.5 rigs on a 460, I don't think they make them anymore though. The sail is not all that tunable but worked a treat with the JP superlight. Cheers.

Many of the current model 7.8 to 8's will rig on a 460. It's not a huge jump to a 8.4m. So if you get a grunty 8m sail that could solve your problem.

You also need to be sure that it will fit your boom size, not just the mast

i just got a maui tr8 8.4 half because it goes on the 460 , saves me money on masts and it feels heaps smaller to sail with than my old maui 8.4 did on its 490. The boom length it needs isnt all that long either .

Hi Sean, I have a NP H2 8.2 that rigs very well on my NP 460 SDM. Also have 2 older NP V8's (7.5 & 6.5) that also rig on the 460 so am very lucky. Their 8.7 H2 does not rig on the 460 though. Cheers.

Severne Turbo 8.6m will rig on a 4.60 with a 35 extension. http://www.severnesails.com/2013/products/sail_turbo.php

What type of sail you after, freeride, freerace or full on race? There are plenty of 8x sails that will rig on a 460 for you to choose from:) North S-type 8.4m, X-type 8.2m and Ram 8.6m all set on 460's. The Ram will need the NS carbon extender though. KA Koyote 8.2m sets on a 460

I'm more after a freerace sail for very light wind, having a 7.8 rs slalom I would like a decent gap to the next sail, 8.5 would be fine.

imo a 7.8 to 8.5m is not a big jump, and for me, unless I was racing then it wouldn't be worthwhile spending the money. Do you use an ajustable OH? if not that will allow you to tune for lulls on the go.

or....just use a 460 mast and lots of extension! I use 460 + big extension with old NP V8 streetracer which says use a 490 mast. I've never had a problem. I own other sails that list an ideal mast and then an alternative mast (6.6 on with either 460 ideal or 430, also with 4.7 wave sail (adj head) 400 ideal or 430, so thats one going up in size and one down.

Thanks for all the good advice guys. I have found a cheap 4.90 mast so I might be able to go bigger than 8.5. never heard of the brand though : Viper, model : xselerator 100% Anyone knows it ? And is the curve good for a Pryde (H2) ? Cheers Sean

Yeah, its an old North Sails mast, 100% carbon. Good masts. Now you can go to a 9m, that's a much better gap from 7.8m:)

my understanding is that North masts tend towards "hard top" and NP are "flex top " as such I would NOT recommend a NP on that mast what about a Sailworks Retro ?? or all the North sails people recommended here ...

Hey Sean, as the other guys have said the jump between 7.8 and 8.4 isnt huge. You should match the sail to mast carefully and the recommended extension otherwise you will be sacrificing something like early planing or top end control, I understand the bigger the sail the more important that this is. If you do want to use other brands of masts with your sails Peterman has a bit of list of masts he has tested which provides some insight on imcs stiffness and bend curve measurements. His other pages explain more about mast measurements. http://www.peterman.dk/masts-all-imcs01.htm I had a 8.4 m for many years but for my weight it was just a tad too big for me for nice sailing in choppy bay conditions, so have just changed back to a 7.8 and for me the usability and top end control is gold
