I went out on Lake Macquarie today .Lumpy with c 5kts and occasional puff to 12kts . It says Norah Head was getting constant 20kts + NE.. If I knew of somewhere decent down there I would have gone there instead.

I've been told the Aquatic Club is a gun spot. Sail north and fly along the edge off the weed bank. Spose to be a excellent spot for speed runs. I'll find out when I head down that way in early spring...

Sue, Norah Head wind reader/meter is at the lighthouse so typically shows 5+ knots than than Solidiers beach would be. I think that area though is (usually) windier than Newie area in summer for NE'r as the NE seabreezes are typically affected by the valley, or so I've read from locals!

Hey Sue, The aquatic club is on the eastern side of the middle lake. I can't remember the street name, but it's near the nursing home. Total lack of detail but google map the area and you'll see the warf and boat ramp there. In a nor-easter the wind is offshore, so super smooth sailing from all reports. As forwave sailing, in a nor-easter Pelican Beach is as cross offshore and nice as it gets. I've surfed there for years, seen the odd sailboard out, looks like fun. Just go when it's small, as it's a beach that picks up lots of swell- especially from the south. Nor-east wind swell would be ideal.
