I don't understand that "it's easier, less effort, faster to learn than WS, therefore more fun".
If I wanted easy, I'd stay home (and to me, in the scale of things, kiting looks closer to staying home and watching TV than a sport).
Yes people take up kiting faster, not unlike playing solitaire, say.
Yes WS takes longer to master - there is more to it, that's normal.
Strange how people think... they just want it easy and less sporty. No wonder they take it up.
I imagine the only people who really want kitesurfing to grow exponentially are the retailers and schools. To use snowboarding as an example, growth just means longer lift lines and more crowding.
I think SUP will be bigger than both sports combined, is that significant? ..No, doesn't mean a thing.
And "easy" is Base Jumping....how hard is running of a cliff with a parachute?
Not a fan of the SUP thing, but I had the chance just last weekend to horse around on a (lent) Starboard SUP 12'6".
Monster of a board, but rather pleasant experience to freestyle and screw around in lesser winds, if one must get out under 15 knots say.
Here's the results - good for a joke, was OK fun.
Note my brand new One-Design Aussie W-S sail...
Does all the rocker curve in those 12 6 sups cause issues when you rail ride?
I have only done that trick on the original Windsurfer and that is pretty flat.
It's just human nature to encourage others to do the things we enjoy.
Kiting looks like fun. I'd like to try it but I'm happy windsurfing so I probably will never make the effort.
in this day and age where so many people are so busy with work and paying of their perth apartment and there other 10 houses and their missus X5 and a R8 maloo ute i see the attraction to kitesurfing because its easier, there is a much bigger wind to kite range and if they can only get out half as much as windsurfers they can still rip, and there gear is so compact. but i have done both and yes kitesurfing is soo much easier and thats why its growing so fast, and i enjoy it, but im a windsurfer, thats what i do, and thats what i prefer to do, i dont mind grovelling around in between the gusts because im still windsurfing, im still out on the water having fun sure i would love to be powered up on my 4.7 and wave board all the time but being out on a big kite only just powered up is crap anyway.
So kitesurfing has its pros and cons, and windsurfing has its pros and cons, windsurfings just cooler because its so different and vast from any other sport that its just cool. kitesurfing is easier to pick up and gets you out on the water sooner
