Whilst doing the final run of my session today ( my toes were going numb) I ripped the screw right out of the thread of my front footstrap. It has plastic inserts.. Anyone have experience with this issue. Would there be enough plastic in the inserts to ram a bigger gauge screw in??

I had this happen to me and when I went to Second Wind they said they had a slightly wider screw they got in especially for this situation. It has worked well. So yes, you can put in a larger gauge screw (within limits!). Just make sure it isn't longer.

Thats what I've allways done no prob. From memory you can go from the std 12 guage to 16 without having to drill it out. Having enough guts in the plug shouldn't be an issue. Only one screw? usually two in each end.

Every JP board I have bought has come with two spare larger guage screws for this purpose. I have never used any of them, last count I had dozen of them in my tackle box.

going bigger doesnt mean better , be careful you dont crack the insert, first i would try sticking something in the hole, e,g some tooth pics or cable ties

Ok, you have given me the confidence to go for a bigger screw. I think I might have a couple of those larger JP screws you mentioned DrJ, although this board is not JP it should still do the job.

6mm X 28mm is standard, Starboard screws are 7mm X 32mm and were developed specifically to keep them from pulling out.

Very good advice - ruined a good board due to changing up loose screws to thicker screws.

Thanks for the advice, was slightly concerned about cracking the insert. Found a bigger gauge screw in my kit and decided to go for it. Seemed to go in nicely without any nasty sounds.... Fingers crossed
