OK I have my gt-11 set up and all seems to be working ,have sd card formatted etc. My question is :- Is there a step by step guide to every setting and i mean every menu and every setting in each menu?? I have read all the topics related to the gt-11 here and on the best site. But there are still a quite a few settings there is no mention of. |

Hi Stribo,
As far as I'm aware, there isn't. It's all a bit of a mishmash at the moment, mainly because the software for the GT11 has moved on so quickly.
I haven't even been able to find a manual for the latest firmware last time I checked.

Yep thats what i have discovered . If you have the time would you mind posting how you have yours set up..
I see in navilink you can clone your gps so i'm wondering if we have a file that works . We can all have the same set up. Just back up the file and change the username and viola...maybe?? |

Try Eric Loots' site or Groundswell
I don't use the same setting as Eric and the Groundswell is for older Firmware but it gives you an idea.

NAVi GT-11 - Now available from Groundswell
- Checklist when you get the unit:- (Below info is for software version 1.5 & below) 1. When you get the NAVI put the car charger and a spare USB cable into the car so you can charge the unit on the beach if you run out of power. 2. From the Settings screen set the Language to your preferred language . 3. Set your local timezone.(Wellington for New Zealand) 4. Set the units to meters (for Kilometers), Feet (for Miles) or NM (nautical miles). 5. Set the Power Mode to Normal. The low power mode might cause problems so best not to play around with it while sailing. 6.Set DGPS source to Off. The SBAS setting has not been tested on the NAVI so best not to set to SBAS until it is tested and proven to be better. 7. Set your User Name. 8. Check the Firmware version is up to date. 9. From the Track screen check that the track interval is set to 1 second. Select Interval and select 1 second. There is no 2 second option and the NAVI is accurate enough for 1 second and has oodles of space. 10. From the Memory Card screen check that tracks will be recorded to SD card. Ensure you have the SD card in the unit and the log switch is on by clicking Log Switch and click On. <<<<<<<<<<11. Check that all the NMEA sentences are being saved to the SD card by selecting NMEA Items. Ensure that all are selected. Some we dont use yet but it may come in handy later. >>>>>>>>>> OUT OF DATE , dont use NMEA 12. Check that the file size is set to Card Size. This avoids multiple files being created for the one session. 13. Format the card to be sure the format is compatible with the NAVI. Again this is done from the Memory Card screen. - Checklist before going sailing: (Below info is for software version 1.5 & below) 1 . Check that it is fully charged. Plug it into your cigarette lighter in the car or your laptop using the USB cable, because it can charge directly from the USB cable. 2 . Check that you have the SD card installed correctly. Turn on the unit. After a few seconds it should briefly display Card Found then New File. If it does not do this then something is wrong. <<<<<<<<3 . Check that the light is off. It is possible to set it on and stay on which is not good! Press the on/off button briefly to turn the light on or off.>>>> Changed 4 . Clear the onboard flash ram. The NAVI can save tracks to both flash ram and the SD card so best to record both just in case. Use the Track screen, select Clear, and Yes to confirm. 5 . From the Trip screen clear the trip data and displayed max and average speed. Toggle down to Trip Max Speed and hit the toggle and then Yes to reset the data. 6 . Do not turn the NAVI off and on during the sailing session as this will create multiple files that will need to be stitched together. Best to simply leave it on.- Download Checklist After you have broken the world speed record and ready to load the data onto your computer, remove the SD card and place it into your computer's card reader. All software will be able to read the file directly from the SD card. But my preferred method will also save the file to the hard disk as follows: FOR PC 1 . Start by creating a folder on your hard drive where you want to save all your NAVI data. You might save it by year or month. Its up to you. 2 . Open RealSpeed or GPS-Results and select File Open... to navigate to the SD card. Enlarge the File Open dialog box and in the top right corner you can choose Show Details so you can see the date and size of each file. 3 . The files are named after the date and time they are created. The files created are about one megabyte per hour of sailing. So RIGHT click the largest file with the right date and select copy. Navigate to your NAVI folder and right click and select Paste to paste the file into your NAVI folder. By doing the copy and paste from the File Open dialog box it save you navigating to the folders in two pieces of software. 4 . Click the new file again and if you wish click it again to rename it. Then select Open from the Open Dialog box. - RealSpeed/GPS-Results will open the file and process the results. You can then select Save As... and the same NAVI folder is opened to save the track as a GPX file. - To get the tracks off the flash ram is a bit more involved. NAVi comes with software to download the flash memory to an NMEA file on the computer. Connect the NAVI to the computer using a USB cable and set the NAVI into NAVIlink mode using the NAVILink screen. Run Navilink.exe, select the COM port and browse the target folder to your NAVI folder. Click the Read button to download the data. Once the file is downloaded then RealSpeed or GPS-Results can read the downloaded file.

This is what i used and everything works perfectly. This is what i was suggested by the GPS blokes here and i'm sure some will be willing to give you a hand if you get into any trouble along the way. I would use this link and make sure you get the new firmware, it makes a huge difference.

All those settings look good except the 'ON-FIX'. There have been a few problems reported with this setting that occasionally cause missed trackpoints/datapoints. I, and many others, prefer the setting 'ON'. The difference is that the GPS records all the time, not just when it has a sat. fix. It's only disadvantage is that it makes a larger file sometimes. This can be countered by using the Data Logger setting like Eric has of 5 kmh (2 knots) as the min logging speed. This was when you are standing around it will stop recording data. I also helps to stop huge spikes when you fall in. :-) |

OK Daffy shall we make our own version.
eg...
Memory Card LOG SWITCH:__________ON MIN SPEED:___________1 KT NMEA ITEMS:_________SBN 1-SEC FILE SIZE:____________CARD SIZE FORMAT CARD:________[erase all data from memory card] REMOVE CARD:________[after this command you can remove the card]
Data Logger INTERVAL:____________1 SEC MIN SPEED:___________3 Knot SAVE TO CARD:________[copy session to memory card] CLEAR:_______________[datalogger session will be cleared]
Alert BUZZER:______________ON OVER SPEED:__________40 Knot ALTITUDE:____________OFF TARGET______________OFF
Settings LANGUAGE:___________ENGLISH TIMEZONE:____________+9 (Perth) (+11 AEST) UNIT:________________NM FUNCTION:____________NAVIGATION DOP:_________________0 TIME FORMAT:_________24H DATE FORMAT:_________YY/MM/DD ARRIVED:______________50 Feet MAP DATUM___________WGS84 POSITION:_____________DD.DDDDDD USER GRID:____________L=E102 s=1.000000 X=500000 Y=0 POWER MODE:__________NORMAL DGPS SOURCE:__________OFF INTERFACE:____________BINARY BACKLIGHT:____________ON BACKLIGHT TIME:_______10 SECONDS CONTRAST:_____________[middle] EXT. POWER MODE:______OFF USERNAME:____________(Your Name) USAGE:________________[stats... usage wayoints etc..] DEFAULT VALUE:________[back to factory settings] * Don't Press or start again!! NMEA BIN ALIGN:_______OFF SPEED AVG TIME:_______10 SEC SPEED GENIE:__________25knot HOLD KEY:____________MARK SERIAL NO.:___________1003281 VERSION:_____________V1.62 (B1115)
Notes....
Overspeed... I like 40 but for slalom 30 may be better Date.... I prefer y/m/d so the files are in chronological order on the PC folder.
Any other thoughts/differences?

This is fantastic.
Once finalised it should also go on the GPSTC site under guides for an easy to find location.
Including the Gebruiksaanwijzing: and Groundswell sections. |

| Anyone tell me how to open the card door. The last few times its been a bit of a struggle. Now I have just come in from a session and simply cant open the door. Do you push or pull on the little catch, if I do either any harder it will break so I need to know exactly what I am trying to do. |

Hey Frant On mine the little catch slides towards the back to release it. Was there much wind on the lake? I saw only about 15 on the charts. |

Thanks, Got that. The little catch was jammed-freed it up with a dash of olive oil. Was perfect Hypersonic and 8.5 conditions. Geoff and I both out,it was a lot of fun. |

Yes, mine can be very stubborn at times. I place the GT11 face down in the palm of my hand with thumb on catch, then push in and away with my thumb. Just opened it and had a look at the catch. if the unit is right way up, the catch thingo has to go downwards. OK tried a few things, and a slight inward pressure on the upper part of the catch helps the downward movement.
Think just pushing down on the bottom projection tends to jam the movement a bit, inward pressure on the upper part keeps the force parallel to the track. |
