One of my friends was Holidaying last year at Malapascua Island , Visayan Sea Philippines. He went on a day trip to another Island called Calangaman Island and took some of these photos. The Island only has 3 families living on it. You can not find it on Google Earth. Looks like a nice place to holiday on some flat water. I don't think anyone has ever windsurfed there yet apart from Hobby Cats.
Hi Billabong..Malapascua is basically a dive spot cuz of the thresher sharks other than that not much i haven't heard of any windpowered sports mainly cuz there's just a thousand islands to go to and since it's near the island of Cebu it doesn't get much wind probably because of the topography as next to it which is ours Negros Island..however, try checking out Bantayan Island NW of Cebu 1hr. ferry ride there are a growing number of kitesurfers flocking there once in awhile and i've seen photos of whitecapped beaches wide expanse of sand and sea..me and a friend just talked about Bantayan 2days ago to check it out on the weekend hope we do...regards
Kumusta ho John,
I mainly go to Boracay.I haven't been to Cebu yet or Malapascua. My friend has been there about 3 times now and likes it. He said it reminds him of what Boracay was like 20 years ago. My wife is from Coron Coron ( Sorsogon ).When we go to PH we go there first to visit her Family. We have to go to Bulan first then get a boat to Coron coron. I have no gear over there yet.I have just been sailing at Boracay ( Bulabog Beach ) on rental gear.I hear they sail at Batangas & Taal Lake. Do you know of any other places they sail and rent gear?
Salamat ho

Hi JP,
I'am an Aussie. My wife is Pilipino. I know all about the Monsoon Season. I have been to PH 3 times during the Monsoon seasons. I was there last year when Ondoy hit Luzon. I was in Sorsogon when it went passed. We then went to Manila and were ready to go to La-union to visit a friend and Pepeng came across the North of Luzon. It went North out to sea the did a 180 turn and came back. Lucky we stayed in Manila my friends house had 2 foot of water run through it. I was watching Typhoon 2000 web site the whole trip. At the moment we are thinking about Marso next year for the next trip. Will PM you. Salamat.
There is another Island with a good sand bar next to Panay.
Sandbar Beach Resort, Bulubadiangan Island, Concepcion, lloilo
Might be a good speed spot too?
I found a You Tube video on it.
hi bilabog i think i saw these three islands on our way to Caticlan for the Boracay Cup and we were talking amongst ourselves the 5 of us how good a spot it could be..looking at the tattered flags could be a spd spot. Good on ya for finding this placei never even heard of the place..i will do a research on it. Anything west of Panay island should be good for the monsoon season..yes? cheers
this place should rock during the monsoon Bilabog..due to the venturi of Negros and Panay..this place is about 15kms northwest of Lakawon Island and when a tropical storm is north or south of us Lakawon gets 20-40kts easy and should be the same for Sandbar Resort it's smack right in the middle that's why the shifting sandbars must be strong wind and currents
JP, Sounds great. You will have to go try it out. My next Visit next year I might go to Boracay first for a week then get a bus or Taxi from Caticlan to Concepcion. The Sand Bar resort has their own pump boat to take you to the Island. The Bahay Kubo ( Huts have solar power) Found info on it all plus more photos.
The Island North of there has a sandbar to. Agho Island.
Bilabog you make me look like a tourist in my own backyard!nice pics..keep in touch when you get here..
Will do JP,
Here is all the info and prices on the Islands.http://www.flipnomad.com/2010/01/philippines-hidden-gem.html
There is a video link on Agho Island plus more photos of the 3 islands.
