I fixed the slow leak near the junction of the seam and inflated the SB to 14 psi.

Checked it after 12 hrs and it lost zero pressure.

PT, JS and I then took off on the regulation Elwood - HMB DWér enjoying gusts between 30 -40 knots.
I was sceptical prior to the run, but was a convert afterwards.
It required a bit of coaxing onto a runner, but once on, felt solid, stable and controllable.
Granted, it's a different sensation to a rigid board, but geez they work well across most conditions. Packing up at the other end saw no tedious moments trying to strap 3 boards onto one car in the gusty northerly.

I had a session on the 12'6" by 30" inflatable and it was horrible. It bobbed like a cork with virtually no glide. It was pumped up to 13 psi.

People tend to underinflate these things. You need WAAAAY more pressure than 12-13psi in those boards. I ran the RPS Astro Tourer up to 18psi (with wooz's blessing) and I thought it went pretty well.

The more established iSUP makers (Uli, Red) build theirs to take 20-25psi.

i think it goes very well from what i can see on that vid.


big mouth time- use inflatable boards in all bop races.

traditions boards are just to expensive for those of us that pay for boards to be thrashed around and damaged and then take in water and finally be dramatically devalued in the process

safer too and you still get the spills and thrills

I think all the brands are selling their inflatables for a bit less than their equivalent AST models. Certainly not $400. Closer to $1400.

Anyone tried this board, the Converse Astro?

Just got one, took it surfing last week. I've got the old pump which tops out at 15 but tried to get a little more air into it. Actually really quite good fun! Surfs better than I expected it to, turns, trims down a wave, super stable. Great for people learning to surf. I bought it for a trip to Europe where we will have some beach time where there will be waves, couldn't stand the thought of waves and no board....
