hey guys,
the wind forecast looks promising so i have booked flights to come down and explore your west coast. arrive launceston on thursday morning and fly home on sunday night.
the plan is to head west then up the coast. would be sweet to hook up with the local crew for a kite.
hope its not too cold for a 'soft eastcoaster'.
better go pack the small kites.

I'm going away this weekend, you could try Brady he might be about? Townie will be frothing somewhere, locate him and you'll be where the wind is!

Marrawah will be off the show on Friday!

I'm heading up the west coast. Strahn, Marrawah for weekend, sisters beach next week. So will be around but with the family. So will keep an eye out for kites. I have my gear but will need to earn guy time tickets on the road.

Just wondering what your coastal roads are like to the beaches. Looking on google maps they seem to be dirt or sand, are they and would I need to hire a 4x4? Is most access by private property?

Cheers fellas, so keen for that wind. Hopefully we will get some sweet waves to.

Hey SB just found your thread, surprised as Im in Launceston for the 4 days doing family stuff. Spewing, the winds been cranking. Looking for kites wherever theres water. Greens beach looked like it would have been fun north of Launceston yesterday with clean 1 footers blowing in with the wind, no kites to be seen though.

No doubt you will find/have found lots of opportunity with this wind and im guessing huge waves. Good luck, like to hear a review of your travels when your back.

Well I had a good few days down south. No action pics , but here's a couple anyway with a rundown of how it went...

Flew into Launceston and headed along the north coast to Stanley.
Really nice area with crystal clear water and nice sandy beaches.

Saw a few guys out so quickly assembled boards and got the gear ready. Wind looked a bit dodgy so was going to go the 10 but settled for the 8. Wow, was it windy in the water!!! Getting dragged sideways with the kite at lunch! Made for a really fun freestyle strapless sesh in the chop.

Woke up early and the wind was pumping at Marrawah. Checked the coast for some cross-shore wind and settled on Greens Beach. Surf was around 5' and wind was enough for the 6m. Really nice conditions, best of the trip!

Then headed for Smithton for supplies when I got a call from Townie. He offered me a bed and dinner at his place. That arvo we went east along the north coast to a beach just out of Devonport. Wind was light and the surf was mushy onshore. Had half an hour before it got dark and the wind dropped with Brady and Chris. Was good to meet some more Seabreezer's.

Saturday we spent chasing the wind. Nothing along the north coast so headed west... Had a look at Bluff Reef but it was way to onshore and just looked like chop.

Checked out Lighthouse beach and the surf was pretty clean, pitty there were no rights coming through otherwise would've had a crack.

Settled back at Greens beach, was too underpowered and onshore to get out the back. Mucked around just off the beach for a bit before calling it.

Had a great time, a bit of a shame Seabreeze and BOM lied with its forecast/live readings.

Didn't get the cross-shore waves I was dreaming for, but a really nice way to spend the long weekend and explore some more of this beautiful country regardless. Might have to come back when its not so frontal for another go.

Big thanks to KiteDevil for putting me into contact with Townie. The bloke is a deadset LEGEND! Cheers for the hospitality and company mate, was great to spend the weekend with you.

ohhhh, and I thought Waveslave lived in WA???

Sick, glad you got out into it! Car parks at lighthouse looked sizeable!

Just so you know there is a bar and lines tangled around the kelp out there, I was going to ask if you'd get it, but obviously you were too much of a pussy to go out!!

Haa! Glad you had fun, and yes, Townie is a deadset Legend!

Here's Bluff from a week before... No wind thou...
