I'm new and keen to paddle into winter.
Tall, lean & found all the womens wetsuits i tried didn't fit.

My sons springsuit sort-of fit, but found uncomfortable once out paddling.

Mainly paddling on bay, few very small waves. Still occasional fall-off, so frozen once back on land.

thanks

Hey Wrangler, I have an idea. Have a talk to JBMEL, she runs a SUP school on Jervis Bay. I reckon she could point you in the right direction.
I can't help as I am an old boy and besides I don't wear a wettie up here.
Cheers.ET.

Try a long john. Due lack of arms, the fit tends to be more universal. On extra cold days, you can wear one of those super flexible shark skin vests or similar underneath.

It is a similar system to what is used in diving suits, only you don't need the heavy jacket, so you have freedom to paddle. You can also go down to a 2 or 3 mm longjohn. I was looking in The Shop Next Door at Manly yesterday and Billabong make a stylish ladies model. Oneil are another good option.

I'm in Melb and find a 2mm long john a bit much except for the very coldest days, but warm bootees are a MUST...I can tolerate a lot if my feet are warm. I had the LJ on this morning in about 7-8 degrees and was roasting in it. For flat water paddling/training most of the winter bay crew down here wear some sort of skins or sharkskin type of thing on the bottom half and some sort of zippered paddling jacket (I favour the quicksilver one with the windproof front, breathable back). It will depend a bit on how hard you are working but I imagine in Sydney you could get away with a bit less?

You could get away with a shortjohn mid day, but the wind is cold of the morning and the water temp on the bays, harbours and rivers drops considerably during winter.

If you are doing serious traning and rarely fall off you could get away with a shortjohn or less. However, for recreational paddling and the surf, the wind is cold of the morning and the water temp particularly on the bays, harbours and rivers drops considerably during winter.

Try Adrenalin. They do a range of wetsuits including a 1.5mm long sleeve top which is longer than normal and is great for paddling. Additionally they have a variety of tops and bottoms that have thermal properties. Lots of the sit down paddlers use them.

I use them all winter and find them better for SUP than a wetsuit.

Thanks, all.
Had lesson about a week ago with JBMel
Think I saw her out in a springsuit today @ lunchtime @ Husky.
But I'll be spending much more time in water (falling off).

You've convinced me to try some Adrenalin lined top & bottoms first.
At $39 + $49, can't go far wrong.
Wind chill by end of session and sun setting main times feel cold.
Thanks.

i don't think you'll regret getting some of the adrenalins, great to put under thinner wetties as well, i had to go a lot smaller than i usually wear, so see if you can try them on

Depends what you're after with the Adrenalin stuff. The Thermo skins are great if you're falling in a lot but if you're only in the water periodically the thermo shields are the go. Great in long sleeve or short sleeve. Yellow is great for visibility as well.

Got a Sharkskin long sleeve top on sale-
Awesome, but needed a size down- they're designed for more buxom wenches than I.
Also, pair of the Adrenlain pants- need to change for a smaller size.

For any other women, the unisex Adrenalin tops are HUGE- even a XXXS was too big around neck (i.e. flapping) and I'm tall-ish, size 8-10.
I'm changing some XS Adrenalin pants for smaller.
Advice: Try them on.

Wetsuits feel pretty restrictive, unless I spend about $280-ish.
Will wait until I'm frozen before going there.

Anyone wear booties?
What kind?

I'm in Vic and wear 2mm O'neill Reef Shoes, Plenty warm and very light and flexible. I hate those sock booties, they're for diving.

Wrangler, I use the oniell super freak boots with split toe, toasty warm and still easy to balance in. The adrenaline stuff is great for the price. The best advice I can give on wetsuits is spend as much as you can. My oniell is coming up on 6 years old and is still as warm and toasty as the day I bought it

Definitely recommend split toe - I find it provides significantly better balance than non-split.

I've got Rip Curl, and so does my wife. Obviously with boot, you want to try on in the store, and not buy online, as it's important to get the size right.
