WAKSA Downwinder - Sunday 18th December 2005

With the festive season almost upon us, why not take some time out and have a great afternoon of kiting courtesy of WAKSA.

We'll be organising a downwinder running from Leighton to Swanbourne, with a sausage sizzle and drinks at the end. Everyone is welcome.

Once again we have a bus that will transport WAKSA members and their kit from Swanbourne to Leighton. If you are not a member then you can join on the day and receive all the excellent benefits that WAKSA membership provides.

Details are as follows:

Meet at the bottom carpark, Swanbourne-Nedlands Surf Life Saving Club at Swanbourne Beach on Marine Pde @ 1PM.

Bus will depart at 1:30PM and make as many trips as required to get everyone down to Leighton.

We'll then have a blast back down the coast to Swanbourne where you can enjoy some food, drink and chat as the sun goes down.

The forecast is looking good, with plenty of wind and warm weather, so come along and kite with the rest of the crew.

We hope to see you there.

Yahooo, now all we need is NO MORE WINTER!

Hey GLS, you going to be leading the pack with the bitey zapper? I don't know whether to stay away from you or right close........um.

Haha. Yes I'll be there, but not sailing anywhere near you Gruezi. I reckon you'd through burley into the water near me just to see it attract the sharks to see if my lightening rod actually works ;p

Should be a great day. I've wanted to do this particular downwinder for ages. Having a bus, beer and food at the end, well how could anyone resist.

Who else is coming along this Sunday? The graphs have dropped off a bit so we might be needing bigger kites. Any newby's want to come along and cook the bbq and drink beer?

Should be lots and lots and lots of beautiful sharks around this weekend. apparently there is a 30m whale carcass floating around?beached on Rotto, bringing the beasties in by the boat load.

How many 25ft white pointers does it take to fill a boat

Must be another twist on the lightbulb joke.

Anyway, how do you keep the flys away? Hang up a dead kangaroo at the other end of the porch. If the whale is at Rottnest then we'll be right.

A big thanks to all those that came to the downwinder today.

We had an excellent turn out with 58 kiters leaving Swanbourne in the bus and heading to Leighton for the run back.

It was an awesome sight to see all the kites heading down the coast and would have looked spectacular to all those watching from the shore.

Afterwards a great barbie was cooked up by Dale and Phil, thanks guys!

Roll on the next one!

Thanks To Alex, Graeme, Jess, Dale, Mike, Phil and the bus driver who looked like Damo for a great event. Had a great time with an excellent bunch.

And what a great spectacle for Perth....being one of the first to finish, it was fantastic to view the coast and see nothing but kites for as far as the eye could see....wow!

I couldn't believe it when you told me your harness crapped it. Now you have the perfect excuse to get a new one

What a bummer, but your cooking was magnificent....you do a mean dog.

Fantastic turnout everyone. It was a spectacular!! I've never seen so many kites on the coast and for as far as the eye could see. I'm pretty sure everyone made it back ok, and I promiss we'll be a organised a bit earlier next time with the sign on list.
Thanks to everyone who turned up to support the event.

Here are some more photos of the downwinder. The preview pages don't seem to work yet, but these full sized ones do. If your browser doesn't auto size the pictures, you might have to scroll around a bit to see it all...

One photo features over half the participants on the water! (I count 31 kites)

Thanks WAKSA great event.

When WAKSA win lotto or win big on the stock market how about sponsoring a bus (Say between 1-5pm on weekends over summer) to drive from Brighton to Leighton every hour stopping at City's and Swanbourne.

I would be happy to chuck in another $10-20 on top of my WAKSA fee to assist with the cost.

Just an idea, might have already been thought of.

Thanks again Waksa.
