Has anybody kited along this foreshore? Its about 2 km long, seems to be ideal, but I have never see anyone kiting along here. I would think there are a lot less sharp rocks than Point Walter, and it would seem to be perfect for a breeze coming from the East or North or West.

yep that area is perfect- i live near it and have kited along that strech in a couple of easterlies- i havent kited it in a westerly but it should work. that stretch would be heaps safer in the winter frontal winds than lucky bay cause theres a lot of down wind area (no trees to fly in to) only bad thing is that there isnt much sand on the beach but something could be worked out to keep the kites down. anyway, i reckon all the lucky bay kiters should move up there for the winter so i dont have to kite alone

Thats good news. How far out can you go before it gets deep? Are there obstacles, like the wooden pylons near the boat ramp?

I know the large grass reserve area used to be a rubbish dump about 35 years ago. I am wondering if this is in part why people haven't been using it before now, or why? Is anyone else interested in trying it out tomorrow?

It is a great spot for us winter lucky bay riders, only thing is part of this area is now a wildlife reserve and the locals/council get mighty upset if even a dog runs wild where it shouldn't be disturbing all the wildlife.
They have also installed a dirty fence running pretty much all the way south of the boat ramp which could make landing/launching a bit challenging.
Still this is where i will be in the winter, see you there!

The foreshore is OK when the spit is busy, however not much beach area and weed near the beach gets tangled in your lines when you launch if you are not careful. Neil and I went there Sat and Sun. It is a reserve and you must use the beach on the Pt Walter side of the fence to launch. The fence indicates the dog area and the nature reserve. Be careful how you treat this area as the Attadale forshore preservation group are very compassionate about this area and you will be banned from there before you know it.

Hows this for an idea, if you think a spot which isn't heavily used may be good, just wait for the wind and check it out. Blabing on the forum will insure there will be a pack on it in no time.

Anyway i was packing up the other day at Attadale ( it wasn't very good) and the ranger came over and told me that the foreshore area( between the park and the water) was a nature reserve and it was a no access zone. He said any launching had to be done done at the dog beach area. He let me of with a warning saying next time I would be fined.

Ben.

settle down ben have you ever seen a crowded spot in the middle of winter? we could launch off the dog beach no worries- the wind would hopefully push all that weed somewhere else

Unfortunatly i dont think its possible to have secret spots in the metro area any more no matter how quiet you are.

well hows this for an idea
easterlies & westerlies, why not south perth foreshore where they sail the surfcats?
no points to swirl wind around, plenty of area and hardly anyone walks along the actual sand, they normally stick to either the cycle way or the grass on the other side.
i wanna giv it a crack, but goin by urself isnt much fun.
mite hav a chance on sunday...

Me too. I've been looking and wondering about this area for ages. Funny how you just presume its a "no-go" area because others arn't there. I live on the north shore so I'll keep a look out for you guy's and join you if I see a kite going up.

I'd say the dangers will be surfcats or jetski's riding over your lines if your in the water. There are a lot of amatures out there. Also watch the spit posts if you find yourself drifting.

What about the beach area on the western side of the Narrows Bridge where the para-sailing is done. Its winter now so they may not be there. In a N, or NW, this could be a possibility.

I think you can rule that one out mate, in a northerly Kings Park would make the wind rediculous and anything with west in it would be like frogger in peak hour

Frogger! .. didn't think you were that old!

I've windsurfed from the surfcats to barracks in an easterly - the wind funnels through there quite well - a great experience with the city right there (apart from the Nigel No-mates part)

Yeah Rosey - Been wondering about sth perth for about as long as I've been kiting (all 5 mins )
I'll be in the deal Sun (if the injury gets the all clear) or else, if you're going, I'll come down just to monitor the joe reaction
though - I reckon a few kites in a high profile spot like that might just bring the GO & NO GO zones issue to the boil all over perth pretty promptly - maybe before we are ready for it .

yes well i think ill try it if the wind is right.
guess id best be on my best behavior if i do.
picking up a new board saturday morn so will be keen to hed out.

as for round the corner, i have kited heaps from the como jetty when it is super strong in a sea breeze. i am livin in como so it is close. only thing is it doesnt seem to come in that well there, gotta be strong or it is gusty.
but, in a northerly i think it may be alright...
also gotta watch cos it is super shallow.

i found rocks not to be a problem, just that during summer (especially this summer) it was too low tide so u had to walk out like 50-100m to get going cos the board stuck to the mud.
but winter u dont have that problem.

There wouldn't be a problem like that today. Has anyone seen the river? Along the Como freeway, the beach is completely under water. At Point Walter, the sandspit is completely under water. Along East Fremantle the river is as high as the limestone wall. Its quite extraordinary to see.

I guess this is what happens when the high pressure in one area, force water towards low pressure in another area.

So where are we going to blow up our kites tomorrow if there's no beaches left.
