Warning about Stonefish found at SCARBOROUGH BEACH - REDCLIFFE QLD

It wont be long until we start getting more NW winds and people try Scarborough. I advise everyone that this beach is NOT I repeat NOT a good kitesurfing beach!

Be AWARE of a shell encrusted Crabpot that cannot be removed and is located close to shore.

Be AWARE of the plentiful marine life in the lagoon

Be AWARE of the frequent sightings of STONEFISH

DETAILS: Just a word of warning. This stonefish was found half submerged in a sandy part of the beach 1 metre from the shore. EXACTLY where you walk into the water! Wearing booties aint gonna do nothing for you when you step on this sucker!

Geez, if I was that ugly, I'd want to have big venomous spines to inflict pain on the rest of the world just out of spite. Sort of a karma thing.

Their at all beaches around Redcliffe.
I'm sure I have read that a record size fish was caught at Woody Point. Another nasty at Scarborough is razor clams in the sand and soft mud. Go dig up the sand at low water mark and see how many their are just under the surface.

Treatment...

Very hot water (not scalding) can be used to relieve the pain.Do not attempt to restrict the movement of the injected toxin. Medical treatment should be sought.

There are no recorded deaths from stone fish envenomation for a long time, Anti-venoms are also available even though the likehood of death is remote.

I think the stats for stonefish deaths are sorta skewed by a few things. Please dont quote me for certain but I have been told by fishermen in the area that people haven't died from the stonefish but have died from from "drowing".The pain can be so strong and paralysing that people drown in a few feet of water unable to swim or stand or get to assistance. It's like stats about smoking...there is a low percentage of people who die between ages of 50 - 60 because in fact smokers have already died say in the ages of 40-50 etc.

make sure when u stick your foot in the hot water, u put ur other foot in too. That way u can tell if the water is too hot and burning your skin.

Frig I wish Nan would stand on that, the fish would be in pain for days
